Default Can you do anything without someone trying to upsell you?

OMG today really hit a nerve with me when I went to the bank to cash a check. All I wanted to do was run in and cash a check and leave. The teller starts in about some kind of identity theft thing they are offering, I said no. Then she asks why I don't have a home equity line of credit...cuz I don't need one...let me tell you about our special home equity credit lines... Then she asks if I have heard about their new investment opportunities.... I couldn't help it and I said: OMG just cash the freakin check!

I called to order some fishing tackle about an hour ago (no names mentioned) and when I'm done ordering I hear "push 1 to complete your order". So I push 1, then the recording goes into a sales pitch about doubling your order, and then other specials they have. The kicker was when I hear "push 1 or say yes to hear more offers", WTF no option to say NO! I got fed up and hung up the phone, I don't even know if my order went through. ;?

Can't even go into a stinking gas station to buy a pop without getting pestered...do you have a Speedy Rewards Card? No I don't...do you want one? NO I DON'T. Can I tell you the benefits of having a Speed Rewards Card? OMG JUST TAKE MY $2.00 FOR THE POP AND KEEP THE CHANGE!!

This upselling crap has gotten totally out of control!

Why does Radio Shack need my resume' before I can purchase a 9 volt battery?

And if I had a grocery store's customer card, wouldn't I show it to you?

Good post.

A handsome facsimile of this original post can be obtained for a small fee if you'd be interested.

I absolutely hate it when I'm in a hurry, trying to snort a quick line, and just get a BJ. Then, the damned hooker starts upselling me with "around the world" and only $50 more to go all the way, etc. etc. etc.

ala Charlie Sheen

You guys are funny.....annoying at times.....but funny non-the-less.

I guess some of us are more reluctant than others to give out MORE personal information. I thought I read somewhere that it's actually illegal for a store to only offer a special price to someone that has their card. When I am asked for my shoppers card I just tell them to run the one they have sitting next to the register and I've never been told no.

Let me guess the bank was Bank of America. Won't go there anymore to cash a BOA check, but instead go to my credit union, cash the check and have them hold the funds against my money market account til it clears. They are very nice and don't charge fees or take finger prints.

Are you serious, is finger printing a part of some of today's banking? ;?

I found out that if you tell the caller who told you that you won a cruise that you don't have a credit card, they immediately hang up and never call back.

I agree. The sheet's out of control. Its everywhere and everything. The ones that really burn my azz are the warranty people. You can't even make it out of the store with a new product and they want you to buy a warranty.. Its a damn shame manufacturers and company's make such piss poor quality products that you have to buy a warranty because the junk is not likely to last for more than a few years.
And half the time you still can't get the bastards to cover it because of some technicality. Had insurance on the phone , or so I thought becaue I paid extra for it every month. Had a problem with it, took it to Verizon, sorry can't help you. That's only good if your phone is lost or stolen.. If it had been a guy I was dealing with, I'd probably ended up in jail.

And why do they have to ask for my zip code when you run in for a small item ,pay cash and are just trying to get back on the road?

I wonder if Winn Dixie is still sending grocery ads to Bill Clinton, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. If everone gave the marketers, wrong ages, genders, zip codes it would make their data bases worthless. I do my part.

Standard procedure at Bank of America. Also a few other regional banks around here, Boston, are doing the same. I won't go in them anymore.

It helps them calculate the territory they are attracting customers from. If it bothers you, give them the one for the town they are in, or find one that applies only to a specific location like the White House, either branch of Congress or a famous tourist attracton like Mt Washington NH or APO/FPO.

Have fun!

Reverse upsell works in real estate negotiations.

You say you want 250K for your house? I'll give you 150K for the house, car, boat and lawnmower.

No way--I would have to 300K for all that! Well then, I'll give you 145K and you keep the car and boat.

SOLD!
