Default Hey guys.. WE MADE IT!

After a long day of driving, we got to Langley around 1530 and dropped the boat off down at the marina. Today was a very nice and relaxing drive through some beautiful countryside and perfect driving temperatures.

Langley, the base, I am pleasantly surprised that it is such a beautiful base and surrounded by water, but you can still see remnants of Isabels damage. We left there (Langley) and headed back up the road (or was it down? ) to Norfolk to find out where Caroline's interview is in the morning. While down here, we went ahead and checked into the downtown Norfolk Courtyard Marriott.

I must admit that am truly a kid in a candy store based on everything I have seen. Absolutely beautiful area and I can't wait to get out on the water! We will be checking in on base tomorrow and getting around there as well..

Anyways, Caroline and I are going to walk over to the MacArthur Memorial, MacArthur mall and then most importantly down to some Battleship anchored down the block. I'll try to get some pictures in..

Thanks for all the well wishes and kind words - Y'all are the best!

Welcome home. I knew the fireworks in Norfolk yesterday was for something important. Actually it was for Illumination Day, when the official lighting of Christmas lights takes place. You'll love the batlleship Wisconsin and the Nauticus Maritime Center where it's docked. Don't take your charge cards to the MacArthur Mall. Glad you had a great & safe trip. You've got alot to look forward to.

Hey Carlos, you ain't lying there - I've got a lot to look forward to. We ended up walking down to USS Wisonsin and then followed the boardwalk all the way around almost to the bridge. Like I said, I am in pure heaven with all this water, dockside attractions and how clean everything is. I hope we can hook up and grab a beer soon. Thanks for the kind words..

Garett, What, no chub comment You crack me up there brother and yes, the trip today was polar opposite of yesterday's debacle.. You got it, we are both quite happy, happy as a clam would be fitting.

Well, I will catch up with y'all later.. I am really looking forward to what the next few days has to offer. Looks like Caroline and I are going to hit Luby's for T-Giving dinner and probably spend the day around historic Williamsburg. I haven't been there since I was about 14 and I can't wait to see it again, but moreover show Caroline. Being a pure Texas girl, she has no idea what she's in for.

Here's a few pics from the trip..

This is a picture from when we left . My dog Dutch wouldn't leave the truck, wouldn't look at us because he knew we were leaving and he literally had to be restrained to keep from chasing after us when we did leave. Poor guy.. He will ride up with us in December when Caroline is done with the teaching semester. - yes, those are my fishing rods sticking out the back.

From our hotel room window this morning

from the drive about 75 miles out from Norfolk on 58. The camera doesn't do the colors justice..

It's funny how dogs in general know what the heck is going on, crips even our kitty does.

nah I had my little spew about your shorts in the last post - glad things worked out for yah. ROTF funny I thought it was, but I definitely don't want you or anyone else to think I'm infatuated with them. Now go catch some fish and show us some more pictures.

Chris & Caroline,

Well "WELCOME TO VIRGINNY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad today was "less eventful" than yesterday! Glad you got the boat taken care of, too - FIRST things FIRST!

Looks like you've gotten a start on observing the SOME of the water around there - including Waterside and the Elizabeth River?

It's EVERYWHERE, it's EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been to MacArthur Mall yet! I know Caroline will really enjoy seeing the Williamsburg area - lots to see and do around there, along with being a pretty quiet place.

Know you'll be busy for a while 'til you get settled in. If you need a "strong(?) back/weak mind" person to help with some of the stuff along the way such as getting "houskeeping" set up, I'm going to PM you my phone number and maybe I can get down on a Saturday or Sunday to help out at some point?

Keep us posted and ENJOY - I'll think you'll LOVE your new "duty station"!

I'll be headed for "the mountains" on Wednesday for Thanksgiving - other side of Charlottesville - to visit inlaws but will be back Thursday night. Not sure what the leaves are like up there right now?

Thanks for the pics and DON'T forget to bring Dutch back in
December!!!!!!!!!!!!

And like GARETT has reminded you - DON'T wear them "SHORTS" around there!

Glad you made it Chris! My plans to be up there this week may have taken a slight detour. My brother said the Stripers are thick now!

We're on base now and I am using crappy dial-up.. Boy have I gotten spoiled with DSL and Broadband!

Well Tom, if you do make it up here, be sure to gimme a shout.. I'll bring the beer, just drink fast or Caroline will drink it all!

David (29) - you know you are always welcome in my home. Now you just need an excuse and I think I have the perfect one for you. FISHING!

Gus, not rubbing it in or anything, but it sure seems weird to me now that I am actually closer to Miss-Be-Haven than you are!

Bruce, I'll try to call ya tomorrow while Caroline is in meeting with her perspective principal/boss..

So today we looked at some homes, Caroline did well in her interview and if all goes well tomorrow, she will have a contract in hand by Thursday. Now we just need to find a house. The ones we looked at weren't too promising, but we weren't able to look at some others until we get a "go" from the realtor of the homes we want to look at. I got my fingers crossed!

Y'all take care..

Welcome to the mid atlantic coast. I was at Langley for a little while doing an internship and really enjoyed the area. I spent a great deal of off time at the maritime museum. I'm sure you will have a good time around the area.

Chris,

Got your PM and I'll try you tomorrow nite after 8P.M. or so. Glad everything is going well with Caroline's interview - that sounds VERY promising!

You'll only be about 80-90mi. from OBX now!

"We" have been "renting out" Gus' boat to some folks over the phone (they SOUND "legit"?) and it's been VERY profitable! They have put some straw down in the cabin and have been staying on it for a month or so! They have a GOAT with them, but it stays on the pier (at night!)! Just don't let HIM know!

Chat with you tomorrow!

Regards,

You bet my friend. Just be sure to have her tanks full and keys in the ignition.. :-)

Well, Caroline got a Job yesterday and she is gonna be teaching 2nd grade. We really like the principal and the school is really nice.

We may have a house that we are willing to put a contract on, but we are gonna continue looking for now. It's at the top of our allowed budget, but it is about a block from the water in Hampton and is really cute. It's an older home, the way we like 'em and the only real downside is the kitchen. The kitchen will require a lot of reconfiguring and if done right, we would replace all the cabinets, add some more where there are none and probably require some plumbing remodeling. With that said, that could very well be the deal breaker since we would be looking at a bit of dough needing to be forked out so soon after initial purchase.

The cool thing is that it has a very large upstairs that would be the Master BR and it has a kitchen up there as well. Probably a rental room in the past that was brought back into being a part of the house, not a rental. It has beautiful hardwood floors and new HVAC system.

Anyways, we're tired and gonna relax. These nonstop days are wearing us down little by little.

Later,
Chris

P.S. - Great talking to ya Bruce. Looking forward to either coming up there or having you guys down here.

Glad to hear that you made it to Va. safe and sound. Now that you are close to the OBX, you'll need to plan on coming down, only a little over an hour ride. The rockfish are starting to bite in the ocean, and it won't be long before the action really heats up. Contact me by PM and lets set up a date for you to come rockfishing with me.

Reelwork,

Before you put any ink on paper for a house, take a look at this site and select the area you're looking at. When you do, please make sure you're sitting. There are alot of low areas and Poquoson was one of the worst hit during Isabel. This is just a little insurance for your investment. I was looking to buy waterfront when I first moved to Tidewater and I'm glad I didn't. Good luck with the house hunt.
