Default Samsung TV clicking

All of a sudden my 40 inch 3 year old Samsung LCD Hi Def TV clicks about 6 to 10 times before it turns on. Takes up to 10 seconds. I can't find the manual and assume its beyond warranty. This is the best TV I ever had other than that.....

Anyone have this happen to them. The number of pre start clicks seems to be increasing.

Are these things repairable at all?

It sounds like a common problem with Samsung, here is a link , the good news is Samsung might still warranty the problem, as it sounds like a bad capacitor. If you need to get a new set stay away from Samsung and look at Panasonic, they always have good ratings. If Pioneer still made TVs I would recommend them over all the others, the picture is unbelievable. Also check you black levels and contrast on any of your sets and turn them down to about 50%, allot of TVs come from the factory set at 100% (torch mode) and this makes the picture look like Shi* and also shortens the life of your TV. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/home_...amsung_tv.html

Mine just started doing the same thing? Is this possibly a coincidence? Samsung 40" LCD....I am thinking it might be a software problem.

Default samsung clicking---here is what worked for me--free

This symptom just occurred on my 46" Samsung. I called Samsung customer support and explained that I knew this was a known defect happening all over the world.

They agreed to come replace capacitors for free. Tech came, replaced bad capacitors. That fixed the clicking noise but unit was power cycling.

I called back to Samsung and asked for an escalation (never got upset or raised my voice). They put me in touch with executive customer relations (800-522-7341) who granted me a free 30 day extended warranty to get the main board of the TV replaced.

Board is on back-order but it should be replaced next week. Be firm, persistent but courteous...let them know you are aware of several class-action suits taking place in states like New Jersey and tell them about all of the Samsung items you have in your house ;-)

Good luck!

Thanks to all!!!

This is extremely helpful - I will be on the phone all day - Just hope they speak near English.....

Seriously between accents, my worsening hearing and digital communications it is very frustrating to talk to foreigners on the phone.

i had the same problem with my TV. i was going to fix it myself until I found out that Samsung will still fix certain models under warranty. Call them and see if yours is on the list.

Samsung is going to fix mine out of warranty for almost 3 years. Worth contacting them to see what they can do.

If you don't mind, what number for Samsung did you call? My 3 year old 46" Plasma is having a screen issue. The right side is offset and there is a red line running down 3" of the right margin.

I have a feeling this is going to cost me...

Thanks to all.

They came today - very nice tech - took about an hour. Works great now.

He has been doing hundreds and the company has been doing thousands

Cause - cheap Chinese (he told me the brand but I forgot) capacitors - they use the good ones in the motherboard but not in this board so they save $4. per TV but have spend millions on these repairs - hopefully they learned something.

He told me I was not a heavy TV watcher cause otherwise he would have been here last year - I guess its a matter of hours....

Same thing happened to our Samsung...It was over a year out of warranty:

We called 1-800-Samsung on a Sunday Morning at 10am...Our TV was fixed by 10am Monday morning for no charge. Talk about excellent service!
