Default Military guys deploying in the morning

So me and the family are at dinner tonight, and I notice a table of about 7 military guys sitting behind us. So I tell the waiter to bring me their check.

One of the military guys come over to tell me thanks, and that I didn't need to pay for their meal.

then we are talking and he tells us they are deploying in the morning. To Iraq?

I say WTF, tomorrow 2 days before Christmas, and he says yes it is their 6 month rotation.

So I go over to the table and all of the guys are shaking my hand thanking me for dinner, and I telling them, I am blown away.

I get to go home and hang out with my family and go skiing this weekend and these guys are going to war!

Damn it, I was seriously affected by thinking about what they have to do in the morning.

If you are near a city where there are guys fighting these wars, find a way to help, especially the wives left behind to try and get along without their husbands.

And thanks to you military guys for what you do for us!!!!

Trust me I am nothing compared to these guys, find out if there is away you can help the families of these guys that are deployed, if you are a contractor or whatever. You can help the wives and the families of these guys, with stuff needed around the house.

Oh and if you are in Charleston or near here, I am going to find out how we can help the families that are left behind. By being able to fix stuff around their house and such. Let me know if you want to help!

Wow, that is a very nice gesture on your part!

The military life is not for everyone. When I was in the USAF, I was notified on a Friday that I would be in the Far East (you know, that conflict) on Monday on an 18 month tour!

Damn, that really sucks big time that even 2 days before Christmas, they are rotating based of number of days, but I guess the best conclusion that can be drawn from that,is (hopefully), there will be guys rotating out, who will be home for Christmas.

Thanks to so much for your generosity in picking up their tab. It's easy for me to say I would have done the same thing (I would have), but you did it. Thank you, and yes, thank them for their service. Merry Christmas b/i.

GREAT gesture, bellsisland!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, it IS a shame they are shipping out RIGHT before the holidays - hopefully, the guys they are replacing get home by Saturday!

Around here we only see a fair number of Army NG folks - mostly weekend drilling, I think? They moved our Air NG's down to Langley Field (Hampton area) a year or so ago.

Thanks for putting the idea out there - I'll certainly be on the lookout to do something similar! We've got a bunch of folks down at Ft. Lee (Petersburg) about 30mi. south of here, but I don't get down that way too often. We DO have a VFW locally - maybe time to stop in there and see what can be done? ;?

Thanks, again, for your thoughtfulness and generosity to the men/women in uniform!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Regards,

Thanks for your gesture. It was heartfelt and I am sure very much appreciated by our soldiers.

I, too can not believe they are shipping out during the holidays..

I feel some good karma heading your way..

Having been in the position of those fellas deploying, Thank you... While picking up a check or buying a beer seems like the nice thing to do to honor those in uniform, I can tell you this.. I remember EVERY gesture like that over my career - most happened in the last 8 years too.

Those fellas will not forget you and what you did for them.

Remember this too... Those guys leaving got the opportunity to have an early Christmas with their Families, but the guys they are replacing haven't seen their families in a long time and they can't wait to get home and start their Christmas and hear about Thanksgiving!
