Droid X

We just upgrade our phones to the Droid X and think it's a great phone. Does anybody know how to delete some of the crap pre-loaded apps and games off the app screen? I down loaded the manual from motorola but didn't see anything in there. Thx.

Jeff42899 12-20-2010 06:07 PM

To delete an icon, tap and hold. That will move it to your home screen. Once there tap and hold until it clicks then drag to the trash can. To delete aps, go to settings then applications to uninstall.

dbkerley 12-20-2010 06:08 PM

On mine, you hold down on the app icon until a trashcan shows on the bottom of the screen and then drag the icon into it. Mine is a Samsung Galaxy. I think most of them work about the same.

menu>settings>applications>manage applications, this works for preloaded and third party apps but download the uninstaller app for third party apps, very quick and easy to use

How come you chose the Droid X (bigger screen) over the Droid 2 Global (keyboard)? I am trying to decide between these two.

DrJim 12-20-2010 07:29 PM

I believe some of the "bloatware" cannot be uninstalled.

I tried a couple including the Blockbuster app and I could not uninstall it.

pmurray633 12-20-2010 08:37 PM

yeah the bloatware that you referred to cannot be uninstalled, such as blockbuster, vz navigator, skype, ect.....

Afishinado 12-21-2010 04:28 AM

I have one too. I love just about everything about it, but I have couple complaints. The phone portion! I use my old flip phone whenever I can to hear and be heard clearly (I need to visit the Verizon store today). There is a serious learning curve on using the camera IMHO, and finally it makes calls on its own (lots of them)

NPH 12-21-2010 04:52 AM

Most of the bloatware that comes preinstalled cannot be unistalled by using the application manager.

To uninstall the bloatware you must root you phone. This is not for the weak of heart. It can void your warrenty.

If you do decide to do this, there are a lot of web site that will tell you how to do it.

When you root your phone you are going into the programing mode of the phone, and bypassing the many locks that verizon puts one the phone.

Frank, Go with the X. I thought I'd miss the keyboard but after a week or two of owning the X, I found that I really prefer the touch screen. In fact, I wish it had on screen keys to replace the hard buttons on the boom of the phone. The bigger screen far outweighs any issues with the phones size. It's easier to read websites and the navigation is exceptional. No keypad also means fewer points for incidental water intrusion.

Joe 12-21-2010 08:41 AM

You can download an installer that can get rid if some of it.

kevincook 12-21-2010 09:07 AM

Go with the Droid X, the on screen keyboard is great, especially if you use Swype. After a week of using Swype you won't believe how fast you can type on the keyboard....much faster than a regular keyboard.

I havent had that problem, thankfully

I think the phone is ok though my wife claims it sounds worse to her. The speaker is good, plenty loud. No problem w/ hands free calls.

The camera, eh, all phone cameras suck (compared to actual cameras) no matter how many megapixels they claim. The video is actually decent though.

There is a new update out, check your phones to make sure you have it. It solved some major issues.

ah........must be a Microsoft based product. lol

KeithS 12-21-2010 03:14 PM

As you guy's stated above, dragging to the trash can doesn't get rid of the preloaded stuff.
I went with the X over the 2 global because I considered the keyboard a redundancy that I didn't need.
So far I'm liking the phone more and more as I learn it's idiocincracies, as stated above it definately has a learning curve when upgrading from a standard flip phone.
The biggest complaint is all the "bloatware" as you guy's call it, that I don't need. Thx for the help.

Frank007 12-21-2010 05:18 PM

Thanks to those making comments on the on-screen keyboard. The larger screen sure seems like a good trade-off for the keyboard.

NPH is correct on rooting as the way to get full control of your phone. It does void your warranty, though. Here is more on rooting: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/res...t-rooting.html

Android is a good OS, and its linux-like in that it is user modifiable. The service providers/phone makers sadly have exploited this. Some phones, incl. the samsung fascinate I think, are l locked on Bing (?) as the search engine even though google is behind Android. Who the hell wants Bing? Im sure MS has paid Verizon and/or Samsung handsomely to undermine the intent of Android.

Same with all the other preinstalled garbage. I'll probably take a chance and root mine at some point.

budman6pk 12-22-2010 04:25 AM

Did the update this morning- looks like madden 11 comes in as additional bloatware--- but visual voice mail and the dialed appear to have changed. Also had to restart active sync so something must gone on there- but I use touchdown so that might have something to do with it.

I'd say it's worth it.

FireFly 12-22-2010 07:04 AM

We can thank Verizon for all the bloatware. I believe you can root the phone if you want to delete the junk.

GulfC 12-22-2010 04:06 PM

After using touch screen for a while, you'll be irritated at screens that don't have it.
