Default Check your smoke detectors

October is fire prevention month. If the family of 5 down in Dennis MA. had working smoke detectors in their house the other morning, they could still be alive today. No need to put it off. Go get some fresh, new batteries and a step ladder and just do it.

Is that why my detector started going berserk the other at 0245?

Don't tell it's because of the batteries, I replaced them a month ago and when I tested the batteries the night the detector went off - they were GOOD!

Personally, I think those detectors have a sick sense of humor and wait until you are in deep sleep...

They get dirty inside. Sometimes it's spiders They also just plain get old and worn out. Sort of like the rest of us.

All six of mine are hard wired and inter-connected so that when one senses smoke or heat they all alarm, but yes they do have battery backup. Thanks for the reminder.

Mine are wired together too. Nothing like an 8 alarm chorus when the missus burns dinner

I test them monthly and replace the 9V batt's every 6 months = it's cheap insurance for us.
