Default A very sad day

Today was a very sad day for me and my wife. We had to have our buddy of 14 years put down, our Golden Retriever, he just couldn't go any more. Goodby old friend. Colby, you will be missed.

holy crap, I couldn't do it. I feel for you. Makes me sick to think about it. I was sad @ my lab dying until I got another. Give it a few months and get back on the horse!

We had to put down our Dalmation this past Spring. It was tough. I really think we made it worse holding her while they injected the final dose.

You have my sincerest sympathy folks. I have had to do the same thing with my own Golden. You did one of the hardest things you will ever have to do.Just try to focus on the happy times and the great memories. It helped me get through a time that I honestly thought would kill me.

Like I read somewhere recently--" If there are no dogs in heaven--I want to go where the dogs went

losing a family pet is like losing one of your best friends.....I was lucky my guy passed in his sleep....but still broke me up....I have see police officers in the greatest of tears at having to put down their dogs........he had been my friend, confidant and partner for a number of years...he was my K9 on the job and probably the BEST partner I ever had....and my pet and family protector on retirement....I swore NEVER to get another ...but 12 years later I weakened and came home with two shep/lab mix puppies from animal rescue.....they are a big part of my life again...but You NEVER forget that special one ........ HE will be missed but not forgotten.......

I dread the day....our pup is our kid.

My sincerest condolences. I'm sure you have many happy memories to be thankful for. It never ceases to amaze me how much personality a pet can have, and I guess that's why it hurts so much when they pass on.

Had to put my old friend down a few years ago (lab/shep). It was the hardest thing I had to do. Sorry for your loss and I truly feel your pain.

Please accept our condolences on your loss

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry .........I know what your going through....I wanted to hold my lab when they put him down. It made him all the more comfortable. I'll never forget it. It was 3 days after Christmas.. We have another now....we'll make that two. A chocalate and a black lab.... The choc. is 3 years old and the black will be one year old in November. You'll never forget your dog. It'll just get easier to live with it the more days that go by.

Sorry to hear of your news. My wife wanted a dog 3 years ago and I fought her on it. Well now we have 2 labs and I can't imagine life without them. I play with them everyday and try to keep them as happy as they keep me. Keep your head up, and the memories in your heart!

So sorry for your loss. It is one of the hardest things to do. Goldens are such great companions. I have a 3 year old lab who is my shadow. I take him everywhere. I know my daughters will be crushed as they as they constantly remark on how lucky we are to have him in our famly. I can't imagine the day we get to that point.

I wish you the very best.

Sorry to hear of your loss. I know exactly how you feel.

Tangerine, our 19 year old marmalade tabby cat, passed away on August 20.

Having to put down a pet is a horrible decision to have to make - we dreaded it for years - but when the time comes it's clear that it is the only thing that can be done to end their suffering. I stayed with her to the very end.

At least they are now all in good company with each other.

BareCat,

It's truly a tragedy that our four legged friends have to leave us so soon, but that deep affection will always last.
My condolences and best to you, your family and Colby.
