I don't know anything about those guys, but I've done a few of these replacements and they're extremely easy. Might save you quite a few bucks and time.

Thanks Jeff. Hmm, they have my screen listed for $150 on that site. I think I'll check out screen surgeons as it may be easier just to have them do it.

That is definitely cheaper than having the manufacturer do it. I think one of my Dells was 450 (I think) but for that they fixed everything not just the screen. I had a key missing also, they replaced the whole keyboard. The fee was a flat repair fee I guess and covered everything.

My wife cracked her laptop screen after closing it on a pen cap
Her brother (who is an electrical genius) was able to replace it in a little over an hour. Total cost ~$100 for the new screen.

$100 is more accurate for the replacement screen from what I've seen. The $ really wouldn't be the issue for me either, it would be the down time.

Do it yourself, order the one with the
frame around (its called the inverter),
if you order the one with the inverter is a 10 min job,
if you order just the screen, you got to fit the screen into
the aluminium frame, a pain is the rear...

You can buy the screen with the inverter for around 120 doll.

Beware some sell you only the "screen", others sell you the screen with the inverter,
10 15 doll more.

Check on Google/Yahoo if you can find it on Ebay.

http://www.screentekinc.com/search-l...v7+1247+screen
Just yahoo: "Hp dv7 screen",
its really easy to replace,
10 minutes top.

Maybe if you want to open a business, locally, you can always make 100 doll easy for each screen,
I had taught about these business since you call the manufacturer and they want 350 doll for the screen plus labor...

A person can advertise on Craiglist,
I mean after you replace a few, I already replace 2, it becomes so easy...

http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/...model=PAVILION DV7-1247CL&brand=HP-Compaq

You could pick them up and repair in 2-3 days, deliver
to our door very easy.

I have a eletronics repair degree, you don't need a degree to replace a computer screen.

A chinese 10 year old kid can do it,
100 doll for his skill.

You can get the screen for 120 on that last link I posted.

You just have to take the battery off,
Most puters is 6 screws to unscrew and a plug to unplug,
plug the new one and screw the same 6 screws...

10 minute job.

If you live on a large metropolitan area and are out of a job,
easy living, you can buy a 40 doll old laptop to practice!!!

I had posted on here last year this was a good business to start, I'm happy someone "capitalize" on it!!!

Even without watching the video on the net,
no man should not have problem replacing a puter screen...

If you watch the video on the net, even a "monkey" can do it then...

As more people are informed, less people may over 500 doll to the manufacturer to replace a screen.

If you need a light bulb change on your houses let me know, I can do that type of work too...

Is 10 minutes to change for the ones that come with the inverter, 1 hour or more
if it does not come with the inverter...
http://www.google.com/products/catal...ed=0CFwQ8wIwAQ#

Buy screen and inverter, save some time and frustation.

http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-HP-PAVILION-...-/190456900036

Yeap, Ebay wants 150 doll without inverter.

I'm thinking of quiting my job and start a computer repair shop...

In your case might be worth it, your decision.
Still its a easy task.

I used Screen Surgeons to replace my screen. They were excellent to deal with. I probably could have done it myself but in the end, this was easier and came with a 2 year warranty. Great people to deal with!

I guess I should conclude that it is cheaper to do a repair yourself than to pay someone else to do it.

More times than not, cheaper isn't the "best" solution!

I had the samething happen to me a few years back. HP told me $700 for the screen but the computer only cost me $500 to begin with.

Then I opened up my HP laptop and took out the screen, not hard maybe a half dozen screws. The screen was actually made by Panasonic, I just googled the screen part number and found a computer shop about 30 min away who said they had it in stock. I called them up and told them my situation. The guy told me if I brought in the laptop he'd put it in for free. I forget what it cost but somewhere around $100-150, alot cheaper than the $700 HP wanted.
