Default I found it rather interesting....

I'm sure to many this will matter little and to me it matters not, but I still found it interesting. Where I get these ideas I have no idea, ;? but I got to thinking about the colours of flags, world flags.

Red, green, blue, yellow, white are the predominant colours by far. I wonder why? I also found it rather interesting to see the list of countries that used black in their flag. The majority of those countries are in the Middle East. What really surprised me was the lack of use of the colour orange? ;?Colours like purple and pink where absolutly no shows, I wonder why? ;?

Ah well, carry on everyone, there is nothing here to see.

Ahhh, the esteemed Mr. Garett has once again deigned to stump the brains of this forum

To add to the mix of flag lore, who in the world ARE the flag experts? Smithsonian, National Archives, just anybody named Ross ;?

How did the USA select Red/White/Blue? Is that just was Aunt Betsy had in her quilting basket at the time?

Does it have anything to do with naturally existing colors / pigments and ability to be produced prior to the digital age? Just a guess...

Red yellow and blue is the primary colors and red green and blue is the primary colors for light.

No orange because it sucks. Pink and purple........well, that is self-explanatory.

I hear you Garett - I have stayed up late at night pondering this very same question. There seem to be no answers for many of life's most serious questions. Who are we and why are we here and so on...... After years of deep thought, it was revealed to me in a chili and raw clam induced dream that life is all about beer and boats. So the color of any flag is totally immaterial. If a flag fluttered in the woods where a bear sh*t would anyone hear it? Would the Pope step in the bear sh*t?

So you see the answer is right in front of your eyes, grasshopper, yet you refuse to see it.

I have sent you a PM. Go in peace.

Sri Lanka is the only country I found that has orange on their flag. I've seen some pretty hot cars that are orange and I definitely like the colour purple for Hot Cars! As for pink, well the doctor told me I have to stop wearing a dress so I haven't done pink in a few weeks now.

Ya' know, Garett - sometimes I WORRY 'bout you? ;?

Now, I gotta' go back to my current hobby - collecting ALL of the Sears paint charts, including the "Roebuck" years. It's, what do you say - a "calling".

I have most everything from 1934-2009 (including pastels and flourescents), but am lacking in the "stains" ("oak mist dawn" and a few others) from 1993.

I have them separated - in albums - alpha, by color and year. Then, the stains are alpha, by color and year, in a separate "tabbed" section of each album Glossary. Then, I have all of the Glossaries in alpha at the front of each album, with monagramed titles on the front cover, denoting the "vintage" in that particular album. Then, I insert each album in a handmade, laser-sealed plastic "enclosure" with magnetic locking hardware. After that, I put them on some custom made "lagrano wood" wall shelves I ordered from Honduras. The shelves are enclosed in tempered glass, with digitally-operated "doors" and "monoggated" hinges for silent and silky smooth operation. The shelves are stacked inside of an encasement of Aero-Tek "bi-liquid" so they are, in fact, "floating" - for the visual effect, and, to prevent touching each other and, thereby avoiding any unforeseen damage. The Areo-Tek encasements are then inserted into a modified Grangel Gun Safe, equipped with rollerbearing wheels so they do not "ride" on the unprotected portion of the interior metal. The gun safe is then lowered onto a "portage cart" and transported on a silicone-based "runner" to the garage area, where it is kept until I add to the respective album.

All I have to do is reverse the process to get to an album when I find a new paint chart that I have acquired for the collection.

When ... oops ... gotta' go take some meds. Back in a while.

ah, I think you best be making that three.

I think Bruce got to the plate of freshly made brownies before the rest of us? See now that's why I like the guy.

Yup, definitely missed the Ireland one Jeff, good catch.
