Default Pete Bethune Resigns from Sea Shepherd: ADY GIL was intentionally sunk

"I have decided to resign from Sea Shepherd."

"When the ADY GIL was rammed by the SHONAN MARU, there was a lot of damage in the forward section, but, from the helm back was unaffected. And the ADY GIL would never have sunk, despite it looking quite bad on the bow. It could have been towed to Hobart, it could have been towed all the way to Perth, it could have been towed to the French Base.

"Plans were afoot to take it to the French Base, and Ady Gil, the man, he was planning on funding a recovery of it from there. Now I was given an instruction from Paul Watson via Chuck Swift to deliberately sink the ADY GIL. And this would allow the fleet--the BOB BARKER to go chasing the Whaling fleet, which was a good thing. And I believe it was also done to garner sympathy with the public and to create better TV."

It was all done in secret.
I was ashamed of it at the time and I am ashamed of it now. It was a most dishonest thing to do, and I have regretted it ever since.
I apologize for my role in this.
Bethune also states that the shooting of Paul Watson (alleged to have been done by the Japanese) was all faked.

LOL-you knew the wheels would come off that mess sooner or later. Better sooner before someone gets really hurt or killed...

The only thing that suprises me about this is that he wasn't admitting to causing the accident in the first place.

When did fat ass get shot? I'm surprised the japanese haven't harpooned him and dragged him up the back of the boat.

The late Michael Crichton turns out be a minor prophet of sorts once again. If you haven't already read his book "State Of Fear" you should.

It was in the first or second season of the show. He was allegedly "shot". The only thing that "saved" him was the stupid tin badge he awarded himself as the sheriff of the high seas. The bullet supposedly hit the badge and that's what saved him from grievous bodily harm. It was such a put on that only the greenest tree hugger on the planet would have believed it.

As for this latest bit of news, it doesn't surprise me at all. What plays better - "we intentionally scuttled the vessel" or "it was intentionally sunk by the whalers"?

I wonder how well this one will hold up when the admiral tells the captain to ram the whaler.

I want a show where the anti-whalers harass the crabbers. Now that would be fun to watch!

I have a great idea for a new show!
Don't you know that all those old people picking up shells on sanibel fl are ruining the beaches,
We need a stealth effort to take them out as they walk the beach.
