Default beware of online-yard-sales.com

I had a Friend down south (who is as gullible as an old lady) wire thousands to england to pay for a boat he found on Craigs List. Same old scam of offering boats for sale at prices that are like half price on ebay and craigslist. The email correspondence and company website are very good making it a tricky one. I'm not saying I would wire money out of the country but My buddy did and is out THOUSANDS so I thought I'd spread the word.

www.online-yard-sales.com

Check out the email thread below. It seems pretty real!

Hi,
I'm the original owner and it runs and looks great. No leaks. NO issues. The motor has been serviced regularly. I can assure you will not be disappointed. The title is in the Online Yard Sales Stores possession as well and it is already signed by me and notarized so they will be responsible for the title transfer. Oh...and the title is clear. We have thoroughly enjoyed it and will greatly miss it. . Like i said before i'll explain the Online Yard Sales Stores concept, their website is ( www.Online-Yard-Sales.com ). They are a chain of ebay drop off stores and they offer their services for craigslist users too. I left the boat in their possession when i left and intended to sell it when i got back (if you ask why i'm selling it now when i'm not around), but the wedding costs too much and i need to sell it now to help my daughter get married. They will handle the shipping and the payment. If you want to purchase this, you must register on their website, they send you an invoice with the transaction details and payment instructions and you send the payment to them. They receive the payment and start the shipping process. You receive the boat and you have 10 days to inspect it and see if it's exactly as described. If you decide to keep it, you let them know and they will transfer the payment to me, if you decide to return it, they will give you a full refund back and return the item on my cost. So you can be sure the boat is exactly as described because i wouldn't sell something that i know it will be returned and loose extra money. The shipping cost is already included in the price listed on craigslist so you don't have to worry about that. The process is very simple, it probably looks a little complicated from what i explained but it's not and for a better understanding of how their service works you can check out their "Selling on eBay and Craigslist" and "How It Work" pages. I would advise you to read these pages before you register so you can be sure you understand how the process works. Let me know if you are still interested and if you have questions please ask, no problem.

Regards Patrick

Patrick,
I'm unfamiliar with online yard sales, however, I'm happy to proceed as you wish. I'm a very likely buyer for the boat pending an inspection. It can be very easy, I'm a cash buyer and know what I want.

How much time on the motor, any issues? Does the boat need anything or is it turnkey?

Congratulations on gaining a son!

Hi,
It's still for sale but before i start answering your questions, i`ll have to let you know that i left town a few days ago because i have to help my daughter organize her wedding, and i may stay here a while, but this is no problem because i`ll sell it through Online Yard Sales Stores. I will not require the money up front because you haven’t seen/inspect the boat yet. I guess you used Online Yard Sales before, if you didn`t let me know because i met people that never used it and i will explain how it works in detail. Also let me know if you have other questions.

Thank you
Patrick

Boat still available? How many hours? I'd love to see it this week if possible.

Well, the grammar etc really is better than most, but the whole "I'm out of the country, send so-and-so your money and they'll ship the item to you without question and you can return it" is still a pretty big red flag for anything. I do feel for your buddy - I'm astounded this hasn't happened to my parents or their friends etc yet.

Consider running an EDIT on your posts in order to DELETE your buddy's e-mail address and name...

MODS should be able to do this as well in order to protect the schmuck's privacy.

I had a guy email me when selling my boat on Craig's List. He claimed to be a marine engineer and out to sea at the moment but would buy my boat for the listing price. He said he would pay me via Pay Pal and that his "associate" would come by to pick up the boat.

Yeah right!

I did delete his email. The one left is the scam email.

The scam has been reported to the Police but I wanted to get a story out there that will show up on search engines.

Default Online Yard Sale is a SCAM!!!

This crook Patrick , also goes by Donna, is using legitimate ads from all over the country & then writing his text& lowball pricing. I've found quite a few of his ads on Craigs List while looking for a motorhome & he twice wrote back with the same bull story about "On Line Yard Sale" which I'd be willing to bet is his website. Evertime I've seen his ads I'd Google his header, word for word & I've come up with the real persons ad at the real price which is always much higher. He must be finding a lot of in-expierenced onine buyers [a fool & his money are soon parted] because he's got a lot of ads on Craigs List at different areas.
