Exclamation Internet Privacy

First off, there is no such thing as Internet privacy, but...

Please remember when selecting your forum screen name to not have it match the vessel name on your boat.

It is easy to use any of the USCG documentation search engines to discover the name and address of the boat owners, armed with only the boat name, so don't make it easy for the whacko Internet trolls and stalkers.

Lord knows that if my boat name was "wingless" then the obsessed loser trolls that stalk me would come knocking. Hopefully they don't bother the guy in VA too much driving the boat named: "Wingless".

The funny thing is the self-proclaimed "world's smartest boater" is a rags-to-riches story, trailer trash to $6M mansion trash, by selling computer paranoia software and his home address shows up when searching on his screen name, oops.

Gonna go with an old "Dadism" here - "Don't write checks with your mouth that your ass can't cash!" Whether IRL or on the Intarwebs - treat people as you want to be treated and you usually won't have a problem with stalkers or people out to get you (for whatever reason).

There are those that insist on being tough guys, trolls, and just general douchebags behind an anonymous keyboard. Those are the ones that get added to my Ignore list. Take anything somebody tells you here on the Internet for what it's worth -- just another opinion.

You seem to have a problem with this, Wingless. This is like the 2nd or 3rd post in the past month or so you've made about people stalking you. What did you do to piss them off this time? Why would anyone even waste their time trying to stalk you?

When you think everyone is out to get you -- YOU'RE RIGHT! THEY ARE!!

My boat's name is T3. If you can find it in the documentation database, let me know. Most of us here have state-numbered boats that are numbered, and the states don't give a rat's ass what name is on the transom.

Just because your paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.;?

Whew, good idea. Now how are you going to stop all the people who see the name on the side of your boat from looking it up?

Well you must know a whole lot about things, but here's a tip about the Title of your Thread.

It's a contradiction of terms....

I would think that this only applies to documented vessels.

I'm curious why this guy is a "self-proclaimed world's greatest boater"? Why is he "trailer trash" and "...6M mansion trash"? I didn't see any of that, seems like a smart professional computer guy. You seem upset that his boat is called "wingless", is that the problem?

There have been a plethora of posts from that self-proclaimed "world's smartest boater" requesting my: name; address; phone number; photo and boat photo.

These requests are probably NOT so he could send me a Christmas card.

As the topic identifies, using your boat's name for a documented vessel as your screen name is akin to publishing your real name and address in an on-line forum.

There are waaay too many whacko Internet trolls to make that security breach acceptable.

Good point!

Sorry I am not qualified to explain the mental illness and obsession of on-line Internet trolls.

But, according to the troll's own words, my pointing to written FSM documentation that contradicted his pontification initiated the obsession.

Again, my advice is to minimize your on-line exposure to the unstable elements stalking the Internet.

The screen name matching the documented boat name makes it WAY too easy for the forum whackos.

I had a female stalker a few years back.
I let her catch me for a couple of hours....

I'm currently looking for another one.

Yeah, depending on how she looked, I probably wouldn't run away from one!

Sorry, but there are WAY too many total whackos on-line to create a screen name matching the documented vessel name.

Well that may very well be the case, makes me wonder though how many people have searched the CG Documentation Database for the name "THT Mod 2"

By the way, in which threads/posts are you being stalked on here at THT?
