Default Intro to New member

I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself.

I look forward to participating in this forum and hope that I can make a valuable contribution. I am retired Coast Guard. I was enlisted and officer, and later after my first retirement, a civilian engineer for the USCG. I spent a total of 34 years with the USCG.

But I developed an interest in boats as a small child and over the years have been in motorboats, sailboats, ships and even PWCs. In my career I got involved in boating safety after I got my commisssion, and my first assignment was investigating accidents. I then moved on to be a Director of the USCG Auxiliary. I took a break from boating and worked as an engineer for a while and then went to HQ and worked in Boating Standards. After retiring (the first time) I went back to work in essentially the same job in standards as a civilian. I retired again in 2004.

So my life has been almost totally involved with boats and boating. But my current boat is a dinghy which I built three years ago. "Old sailors never die, they just get a little dinghy"

I am still very involved with boat builders through my website at and I participate in a half dozen forums for boat builders and as a member of ABYC. I am also currently building an 8 foot sailing dinghy.

So I look forward to meeting all of you.
