Default Colonoscopy and coolant time!

As we learn, the most hateful part of the process is the prep. Every year they have some new magic formula to clean you out so they can sing "I can see clearly now".

This time around, the instructions said to take the prescription to the pharmacy and get it filled. So, I'm standing there and the pharmacist comes back with what looks like a coolant overflow jug for heavy duty earth moving equipment. Huh? I looked at the container and the label said to add water to the fill line and shake until dissolved. Then, drink 8 ounces every 10 minutes until all 4 liters are consumed the night before the procedure. Now, I can drink beer with the best of em, but just how in the Hell am I supposed to go through 4 liters, downing 8 ounces every 10 minutes for two and a half hours and then hit the damn bed? I don't think so. If I do, me and Babeasaurus will be in adjoining divorce courts.

Converting this mess to ounces or beers, which makes more sense to me, it is about the same as chugging down eight 16 ounce beers, one every 20 minutes and then going to bed! I better not dream of waterfalls and rivers or there is going to be a real problem. Beer gives you bed spin. This stuff, where the first thing on the ingredients is 240 grams of Polyethylene Glycol 3350 (can you say coolant?) is gonna make you plant your butt on the throne like an abalone on a rock. The hemorrhoid check ought to be a piece of cake, 'cause by the time I go thorough more coolant than my truck has, I'm sure I'll be able to just tie the 'ol bung hole in a knot.

The joyous event is next Friday. I can hardly wait. There has got to be a better way!

Hi kern,
My wife has them every few years due to an earlier bowel cancer episode. Eva has been OK for nearly 20 years but still gets scoped.
Her specialist provided a small sachet of "stuff" which was mixed with ONE 10 oz glass of water. That was it. She cannot recall the brand name.
The 4 litre dose was around perhaps 10 years ago from memory.

Talk to the doctor about taking something else. I had mine recently and just drank two one and a half ounce of something that was over the counter and tasted like lemony salt water but it did the nasty trick. That gallon stuff is way outdated for many years now.

Awesome read!! Yep, that about describes it. The misses had her first 'scope done a few weeks back. Poor thing. I had to move the TV and a her needlepoint in to the head. She was scared to death of moving more than a few feet away!

So why the disparity between the treatments? I mean, if a little 10 oz bottle works, why the heavy duty super industrial sized jug we have gotten in the past??

Pete,

I suspect that Kern is a bit more full of it than is Eva

That's why he requires the industrial export solution.

Ah man, I had that done a while back, and that Moviprep (as I recall the name) was some nasty stuff. I thought I was gonna toss my cookies before I had the chance to launch them into the toilet.

When I had mine, all I had to do was a Fleet enema before going for the scope. That was unpleasant enough. How times have changed!

I remember that stuff......I think they called it "prep" or something like that. Our youngest daughter had colon problems when she was younger. I remember her having to drink a ton of that stuff before her colonoscopy's. I remember testing it and it did taste like crap.

There is a small bottle around 10-16 oz. It contains saline which works very quickly. Ask your Dr. for that. Easy and not a big deal. I advise you not to venture far from home/bathroom. Agree the Fleet enema was not an enjoyable event.

I also had to drink a gallon or so of some powder mixed whith any clear liquid.
I was on the gourney talking to the doctor when he asked me if I mixed it with a clear fluid and drank all of it.
I said sure, mixed it with vodka and it wasn't bad at all! lol

Needless to say, he wasn't amused.

X2 this suggestion. Just completed mine several weeks back and actually was awake at the end to watch the last 3 o 4 minutes on the screen. No big deal just drink the crap and take the jug to the toliet with you. No reason to run back and forth. Good luck, hope all goes well for you.

It was about 9 years ago.......she really hated doing it, and dad drank some so she would know it was OK. It tasted awful.

Man.....I am thankful that parts over for her. Looking back it was very trying times for all of us.
