Default Bank of ........

Disclaimer: JMHO okay?

This is a quote from a Yahoo article this morning:

"Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan acknowledged in a conference call that overdraft fees were generating a lot of income. But the bank was also losing customers who were often taken aback by the high hidden fees.

Checking accounts were being closed at an annual rate of 18 percent, he said, and complaints were at an all-time high."

I dumped BofA over twenty years ago after two bad incidences with a checking account. Not saying they're a bad bank, just had some really bad experiences with them.

My GF still uses them but I can't understand why you have to pay to talk to a teller too. Doesn't seem right.

Are you saying you cannot walk in to a BOA and talk with a teller without handing over $$?

;?

I go in almost every week and dont see how this is accurate. Yes, if you maintain a lower balance (under 5k I think) you have some fees on bank checks and such, but not on the rest.

ATMs are everywhere which is awesome. With that said, I cant wait for TDBank to expand though so I can switch. My wife has used them for years and they are awesome, I just hate having to drive across town (passing a BoA ATM every block) to get to one.

I've had issues with BofA a few times but I've had an issue with a couple of other banks also. (I can be a pain when it comes to my money, I follow the letter of the law and don't give an inch). Many tellers don't know all the rules as it applies to accounts or how a bank will cater to a customer with a large account.

BofA is not my highest ranking but they've never asked me for a fee to speak w a teller, if they did I'd be long gone.

And just to help keep tellers, I use them whenever I can, ATM's are fine but human interaction is important!

I still have the same checking account number on my account that I opened up the summer before I started college('91), however I have had 6 different banks during that time...LOL I somehow obtained a premier status with them(probably from all the home loans I have) and even if I bounce a check they still cover it and waive the fee. They have been doing it for over 5 years and it's great. No reason to leave unless they start charging me!!

It is very simple... with all banks. Do everything with the ATM and avoid the humans and you'll be fine. EVERY time I've EVER had a banking problem it revolved around some asshat that didn't do their job or want to do their job. USE THE ATM. The machine is always willing to work.

The issues are NOT solely with Bank of America. You can thank Mr. Obama & Co., for the impending CHANGE, as to how banks are about to be doing business. The government is precluding banks from making profit because the Federal Reserve is likely going to be keeping interest rates low for the foreseeable future. The thought by current government is that low interest rates will be conducive for business, particularly small business, to obtain loans, thus hiring people, thus effectuating an improvement with the given unemployment situation. The thought is low rates will make businesses expand (growth) and hire more people as business will be able to expand via the ability to obtain low interest loans. Without making this a political thread, this philosophy, in my not so humble opinion is subterfuge and highly misguided.

I left them a few years ago because I hate false advertising. If they would just be truthful and call themselves what they are then I would not have an issue with them.

The sign out front should read:

"BANK of MEXICO"

I believe as previously mentioned that your balance in your accounts there matters when it comes to a fee for talking to a teller. My GF only has one small checking account there to access their ATM network and she does get charged if she needs to talk to a teller. The rest of her money is spread out in different places which I think is a good idea.

Personally, I left BofA many decades ago because my balances never seemed to balance. I asked one of my friends whose wife worked for the BofA then and he said it was a problem then, something about how they transferred money around between accounts to balance their own books. Maybe computers have solved this problem but I never went back. I may be slow, but I'm not looking for that third time is a charm.

My bank of 30 years just got took over by FDIC. It was a part of our small town as the people themselves. Don't know what the new owners are fixing to do to me.

The worst bank by far has got to be wachovia. One of my dads trucks is financed through therm. Recently he was in a motorcycle accident and was left in a medically induced coma and on a vent. The bank called my cell phone one day asking why his payment was late. I explained kindly to the lady that he was in no shape to speak on the phone and I would be sending in his payment for him. She has the nerve to ask meto have him call her when he was "available"

"They have the option to avoid those fees," she reiterated. In August, BofA introduced "eBanking," an account designed for online-only customers. These customers get free checking if they opt out of paper statements and adhere to the web or ATM machines. If they want a copy of a paper statement or access to a bank teller, they are charged a per-use fee of $8.95.

seems it would (at least for now) be for online accounts only.

If they ever try and bang me for $8.95 to speak with a person with limited skills I'll vote with my feet and bring my accounts across the street.

My sentiments also. I've been with a credit union ever since BofA and have not had one bit of trouble. My mortgage is there also. I did open a stock brokerage account with them but am hesitant to move over my other stock accounts as they are very new to this and have still some ironing out of wrinkles to do. I still get paper monthly statements and can talk to the tellers all I want to. In fact one of the tellers told me about their beer regata to Catalina Island! My investment advisor is there also and we shoot the breeze about fishing too.

Seems wrong that we have to pay the banks to make money off of our money.

I have one of my mortgages and a condo association account with Sovereign. They are the worst. I usually pay a little extra on the mortgage every month on that property and at least twice a year I get back my check along with a note stating that they didn't know where to put the extra amount(how about towards principle) so they sent the check back. By this time it is usually the next month and now I have to fight the ding on my credit report for being late and the late charge. They always straighten it out a few months later but WTF.

The condo association account is in another state and after another owner left I was put in charge of the books(3 unit assoc). It took them 8 months to add me to the account and since I was out of state they wouldn't allow me to deposit money in a branch by me except by ATM, however they couldn't get me added so no ATM card. Glass Steagall has been repealed for over a decade but they are still in the dark ages. In between this the account gets overdrawn by $100. I finally get added and call and ask for a ATM card but they say I can't give you one till I get a positive balance.........didn't even get angry just laughed.....finally had a buddy up north drop a couple of bucks in to the the account to get my card.

Condo is for sale otherwise I would have changed banks...

I used to trade with a locally-owned bank, and they were bought out by BOA. Service went to hell almost immediately...pulled my accounts and went elsewhere.
You've probably noticed the BOA ads touting their new ATM's...be forewarned...that's the only face they will present to the general population before long.

For $8.95, they SHOULD be bangin' you - or, at least wait on you in the NUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's pretty pathetic to charge ANYone to speak with a teller - I'd walk, too!
