Default Menzie gets banned for life...great day for THT!

It happened in the bilge, worth the 17 pages of posts!

While I don't know the guy personally or support-or not, whatever he stands for...I'm troubled by a member of a group being cast out of the group.

Banned? does that not sound awfully primitive???as in 1000 years ago type of "punishment"?

America has a lot of "types" of people and characters...and yet we have never banned anybody that I know of. What makes Menzies so evil that he gets the boot?

What makes the person(s) that banned him so goodly (godly?) that they know better than anybody who they shall smite?

This smacks of another LEO argument where the guys with the badges run roughshod over those without badges.

I don't like the trend, regardless of whatever was said between two parties. Let them duel as equals instead of being a Goliath vs. david situation.

Assuming that a Mod did this, please recant your banning. You're better than that, whoever you are.

I'm with you Rick, I have no dog in this race, I never go to the Bilge, but I just read those 17 pages and #2 and #5 should be ashamed of their childish behavior.

This put up or shut up behavior should be reserved for idiots like me who don't matter, but I don't have the hat nor the whistle.

I know good people that I like are happy that he's gone, but #2 should have walked away and not been heard from. He sounds childish as hell and spouts those epithets that are more commonly heard in the playground.

We are allowed to be jerks, we are the numbers that bring advertisers here, but the Mods are not. Their job description needs to updated to playground official, not the playground bully.

I think that guy was one of those internet forum shock jocks. If you take him seriously he'll drive you crazy.

It is obviously more than this last incident that got him banned. I sometimes enjoyed his banter and he did offer the liberal view on many subjects but the last couple of months this guy went off the deep end.

He no longer was adding anything worthy to posts. Seemed he was more interested in getting under peoples' skins to see what kind of response he could garner. OK beahvior in the bilge but not neccessary for the rest of the forum.

Remember, it's THT rules so either play by them or be gone. It's your choice on how you want to act here.

Page 1. Menzies posts a silly thread and Immediately two Mods engage. I don't get what rule he broke. I know my reading comprehension sucks, but there must be a rule broken somewhere there other than claiming to have PM's that he didn't have. Doesn't sound like much of a rule to me.

I don't go to the Bilge because I choose to not spend time in an arena that's contentious...that's my choice.

You guys that go to the bilge...more power to you...that's your choice.

None of this, or the previous post, addresses the action of Mods being given a god-like power. They aren't here for that reason, IMO.

No, I haven't...and won't...spend time reading the posts. It's irrelevant to me. What IS relevant is that sane people like Boehler have read the posts and they find a problem with both sides of the argument.

If that's the case, the why did Mods choose to wield their big sticks in order to win their arguments? That sound totalitarian to me...and I'm not much for power-plays on an un-even field of play.

If Menzies and the Mods both had bad-wine days at the same time...just move on. Bring the guy back and apologize for playing the heavy.

I frequent some other forums where banning is quite common and the idiots always tryo to come back under a new screen name. Remember that forums are the property of the folks who run them and they make the rules. THT seems to be pretty tolerant compared to some others I have been on.

I was the first to "engage" in that thread, to coin your phrase.
My comment referenced his attention seeking. That comment was carried over from another thread where I actually defended him until he dove off the deep end. As mentioned above, the reasons for his banning went far, far beyond anything that happened in either of those two threads.

I'm with bama on this. I've never more than peeked in the Bilge and don't know the parties involved. My only thoughts on the subject is, "what happens in the Bilge, stays in the Bilge". Also, the use of banning become contagious, or at least detrimental to the overall health of the site.

It sounds like I would not care for Menzies politics (very conservative here), nor would I like his supposed tactics. At the same time, I hope that I'd know when to walk away. It takes at least two to have a fight, if you don't like what's being said, go to another thread or forum.

Seems that all that has been accomplished, is that a contributing member has been banned and several other members are now on another site where they feel more welcome.

Just an observation from someone who has no vested interest in the outcome.

Does not change my opinion that this post is not a job of a moderator. I fail to see what exactly you're moderating. You are antagonizing in my opinion and not offering anything other than being a catalyst to what was to come. I guess you and #2 decided it was time.

"I do have to concede at least one point to your critics. You really do crave attention, don't you? "

Please be assured that banning any member with numerous posts is never done lightly. In the case of an active member with years of history here, it takes quite a bit to make something like this happen. This particular decision was not made by only one or two people. Likewise, the reasons that led up to it were more complex than the single thread that served as the apparent catalyst. It would not be fair to any or all of the parties involved in any banning to publicly list all the factors involved or considered. Sure, we've all seen cases where the members themselves make the reasons obvious, but in other cases, some reasons may not be apparent or known to the forum members.

We knew this was a significant action and we expected that there would be quite a bit of discussion about it on the forum. We also knew that not everyone would agree with our decision and that some would feel it was unfair and/or capricious, while others would cheer. We certainly don't take any issue with members openly posting their opinions on the issue. But, please understand that the decision was not easy for us and the best we can do is to say that it was not a random act and that we did not expect everyone to agree.

It was a long time coming and not the first site he has gotten his fat butt kicked out of. Wilery will probably be the next one to boot the narcissist. At least after Wilery capitalizes on the increased attention to his website:

How could someone get banned for what they posted in the bilge?

Isn't that kind of defeating the purpose of the bilge? It was supposed to be anything goes. At least I thought it was. If you don't like what you read, or someone's reply to your post, too bad. Stay out of the bilge then.

Yeah, I thought that guy was annoying and I didn't agree with most (perhaps everything) he said, but that doesn't make it right to ban him because of his behavoir, if what he was banned for occurred in the bilge.
