i hate to see tom bosley go. that show was a reminder of simpler times (i wish i could have experienced the 50's). the show was fun(until the shark jumping thing) and if it came up in a re-run, i wouldn't be horrified my kids were watching it...if you know what i mean.

There's a very long list of TV worth watching that beats the crap these days. Either I'm not alone or TV really sucks.

It sucks

RIP, kind of odd The Admiral always said Mr C reminded her of my Dad who we just moved to Hospice of the Upstate yesterday for his final days(82 yrs old). When I see the pics of Mr C it reminds me a lot of my Dad

He will be missed

Can't say that growing up in the 50's was simple. While I was born in 1949 I do remember some very unpleasant things. I don't think I can change anyone's mind but here are a few things I remember.

1 The Atomic Bomb. We all knew we were gong to die if that thing ever came our way. Being 5 to 10 years old and knowing this is not cool.
2 Hiding under your desk wondering how in heck this desk is going to protect me from THE BOMB.
3 Baby Boomer class room size. Nothing like have 40 kids in a class and thinking one teacher can control them.
4 Polio was real and very scary.
5 90% Tax rate I did not pay but my father did.
6 All the childhood "normal" sickness that are gone now. Measles, Chicken Pox et al.
7 and last but not least wondering why Uncle Miltie dressed like a woman all the time and why Liberace was so dramatic.
8 Korean war was still an issue as there was this place called Viet Nam that was getting our attention.
9 Segregation and the separate but equal schools and drinking fountains yeah they were equal.
10 It was not all bad just not Shangri La as portrayed in TV and movies.
11 Sputnik showed the Ruskies where way ahead of us in the Space Race. Now that was a way for them to get to us and we could not stop them.

If I was going to pick a movie from the 50's it would be
"Wild One' or "On the Waterfront". Which did portray the 50's in a less than perfect light.

Now the good Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Chuck Berry. All 50's originals. All dead except Chuck Berry and Jerry Lee Lewis shows what clean living can get you. Right Kieth Richards?
