Any input about the difference between small bock power vs big blocks on 31' I/Os. ie fuel effiecency, speed, weight?
I an looking at two boats to buy one has the 5.7 other has the 496, all else is equal on the Formula 31pc.

This boat runs EXTREMELY well with big blocks. Expect 45 - 46 WOT burning an insane amount of fuel. HOWEVER, with the big blocks it cruises very comfortably around 30mph at 3k. They are barely working at that RPM. The small blocks top out around 40mph depending on the variant but to cruise at 30mph, you need 4k. At 3200 they're around 26. This boat is much better with the 496 Mags IMO.

You will probably get a ton more info posting your question up in the Boating Forum.

My buddy has a 31PC with the big blocks and Bravo 3's. They do great (about 50 mph WOT), but it seems like the 496's are way more than that boat needs and they use a ton of fuel. I'd be interested to hear from someone who has the 350's.

I've never heard a person say....."I wish my boat was slower". It's a boat, if fuel economy is a big factor you should be driving a Prius and a sailboat

OK, Big heavy boats need torque more than HP and the bigger cubic inch motors will make alot more TQ. A 496 running 3,000 vs a 350 running 4,000 probably isn't going to burn that much different amounts of gas......but will perform better and will last longer than running the crap out of that smaller 350. (I realize we're talking twins but the analogy is the same)
