gun guys/ kel tec customer service

Got to tell ya the customer svc at Kel Tac in Cocoa is getting a pat on the back from me.

I have two of the P3AT .380's. I've had FTE and FTF issues and I called the company, who said "bring em here, we'll fix em while ya wait"

They got one perfect, like a sewing machine. The other, not so good, failed to extract round one, several failures.

I took it back with a note expressing my concern that I'd hate to be killed while trying to clear a jam and they upgraded the gun to a generation two pistol, new slide, barrel, magazine, polish ramp job, etc. at no change. They had the gunsmith call me personally.

Now that's service and I think they're great little pocket pistols.

Regardless of what the product is, it sure doesn't sound like they make a very good one. You got two, both were bad, and one couldn't be fixed. Not a very good recommendation.

They made a generation one pistol that had issues, I had one of those. It would function on CorBon, but not ball practice ammo, lots of jams... too many for feeling confident. I like to run 100 rounds flawlessly with no failures to develop confidence.

The generation two guns seem to be much much better. I ran 100, getting it very hot and no hint of a problem. Just the fact that they were so accomodating and did the free upgrade speaks well for them. I'll see how the new one works.

They aren't glocks, but a decent small framed pocket pistol that will maybe save your life.

Sounds like they may save your life or they may not. For my wife and myself, we choose revolvers. Kudos to their customer service but I would be real concerned about the quality. In a recent NRA magazine, about 7 or 8 small semi's were tested and all but 1 failed at least several times. Kel-tec was one of those that failed to fire on more than a few occasions. The one that didn't have any failures was priced at around $1000.

My experience with Kel-Tec has been excellent....the gun, I've had no dealings with the factory. Having heard the snobbish remarks about them being the gun of last choice, cheap, not to be depended on, spend money you don't have to buy a gun you don't need, etc. I stuck my neck out and bought the compact 9mm. The more it's used the better it gets as it wears in. I loaded it with a random mix of hollow points, ball, +P, various bullet weights, all in an attempt to make it fail. Not one failure. Every round fed, fired and ejected perfectly. Now on my old SW compact SS 45, I would get a few stovepipes in a day of shooting. Even my little 22 auto will jam once in a while, so this Kel-Tec is the first to not jam. Will it ever? Sure, they all will at some point, but I feel it's not a chronic issue with this gun. This is just my opinion, based on my personal experience. Your mileage may vary.

The KelTec 380 is very popular as a back up with my guys. I've only seen one that didn't work well, it fired reliably but at 25 yards you couldn't stay on paper. Called KelTec and they told us to take it to the gunshop and they would trade it out on a new one, no questions asked. Their customer service is GREAT.

i have a fairly new p3at and put 100rds of corbon dpx as well as 20 or so really hot buffalo bore +p's through it without a hiccup. thats right out of the box, no cleaning or polishing of any component. its not flashy, sexy, or expensive, but it is easy to conceal and as far as im concerned reliable

I don't care if it's a gun or a fishing reel or a TV set. You buy 2, neither works right, the factory can only fix one and has to replace the other -- that's not a manufacturer I'd want to give my business to. YMMV. And I don't own a Toyota.

Ruger, Colt, Taurus, Smith & Wesson, and even Walther had recalls. Do they make a P.O.S.? No. However, all products are made from parts and suassemblies made out of their factory by subcontractors. Sometimes you can gte stuff which is not totally correct and the engineers had a too loose spec. And it got by quality. I know, as I was an engineer in a company which made consumer goods from assemblies made offshore. It happens
I don't berate a man (or company) for making an error; its what they do to correct it that counts.
