Default Friends in bermuda

I know there are several THT members in Bermuda. It looks like Igor is bearing down you. Hope everyone is OK and suffers minimal damage. Keep us posted.

Default he's coming

Igor is coming and coming close. Hurricane prep started earlier this week and most Bermudians have finished their setups. Since this storm is so large and the 'bad weather field' is so large, we HAD to have everything ready by end of day today.
Tomorrow we are expecting hurricane force winds around noon until Monday noon - thats 24 hours of nail biting suspence.

One of the problems is the storm is moving so damn slow.

Our houses are all cement block (mine is 12" block with 1/2" plaster both sides), and built very strong (no drywall or stud internal walls - all cement block). Our only risk is losing the stone roof (which actually rests on the rafter frame). Aluminum windows are 180mph rated and aluminum shutters attched to frame cover the windows.

All boats (21 center console and 13 whaler) are safe in a great hurricane hole.

Good luck, guys.

It looks like you're going to be on the "bad" side of it, to boot. At least it has weakened substantially.

Hurricanes blow.

Hurricane speed has slowed down to 85 mph so it might not be as bad as we thought. Not too bad right now.

winds are very squally at the moment...we are just about to go into another rain band.
Local weather radar loop shows the eye about 100 miles out..

http://www.weather.bm/radarLarge.asp

Cat 1 is still nasty with the driving rain up to the shutters. We are good for now..but will be a bot more nervous when the wind swithes to the SW -W

Looks like the actual eye wall has collapsed as it is not well defined on the radar image. Lets hope it stays like that.

Even though it has weakened it is a big storm and moving slowly. Best of luck to you sir.

Charley's eyewall was pretty close to our house and while it had weakened, it was still a huge mess with downed trees and our power was out for 10 days.

Default in eye wall

We are in the eye wall now - winds are screaming! Storm is not moving away fast enough! So tied of the wind and rumbling noises.

Anyone who doesn't get nervous in a cat 1...something must be wrong with them....I'm pretty thick skinned but this is unreal! Hours and hours of 90mph winds gets stale really fast.

Our house is OK....lord knows about the boat..I hope it's OK...no doubt it is OK.

There is flooding......ferry terminal in Hamilton is trashed...'Bermudian' passenger tender was at anchor in St Georges Harbour has broken loose and wrecked. No houses have suffered structural damage so far.

Have not heard from Doug...he probably has lost power and not has time to fire up the genny in the worst part of the storm. Both his boats are in the lee on land - no worries there for him.
