Default My new toy

Well, it isn't the truck I was looking for a couple of months ago but it is practical and reliable and, as a 21 year old college student, its the first new vehicle I ever bought myself. I drove it back to school today and I couldn't be happier with it. Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics

Pretty nice car for a college student!

Can't go wrong with a Subaru, I recently owned a turbo Outback XT. Be careful, that car can get you in a lot of trouble. Subaru has dressed up the WRX with the wide body of the STI for 2011, it makes you wonder what they are planning for the STI in 2012.

Have fun!

Congrats on your new toy!
Make sure you keep up on the payments, even pay more than minimum if you can.
You are on your way to building a good credit record!!
And THAT is one of the most important things you can do.

Nice, pretty cool it has the same body as the STI now. Thinking of selling my Z06 and replacing it with one of those.

Wow! Nice car...
I bet it's a blast to drive.
Don't be like me when behind the wheel...
or your drivers license will be a memory and you'll have to get a moped.

Thanks everyone. Sorry Conchy, I'm keeping the Jeep. I'm not quite ready to get rid of my beach buggy.

The car has a 5 speed manual. Insurance costs are rather unfortunate for me. 4 cylinder means nothing when the word "turbo" follows it. Additionally, my driving record is not what you would call spotless. One month and three days after getting my license, I got into an accident and was given a careless driving ticket. That came back to haunt me. That was my first and only moving violation. Anyway, back on topic, I examined my bank accounts closely before the purchase and I have more than enough stored away to make the payments while I'm unemployed at school. I know how important a good credit score is in today's world and I figured it was time to start building my own credit.

Mac, funny that you mention the idea of getting rid of the Z06 for a Subaru. I was dead set on a C5 Z06 when I first started the car search. As an avid snowboarder and due to the fact I live in NJ and go to school in Pa, the idea of AWD was appealing. As much as I wanted (and still want) a Z06, I really needed something more practical.

Ok. It's a manual. I was going to have stop over and whoop your ass otherwise.

LOL. I refused to consider any cars with autos or paddle shift. That really helped narrow down my search. I really liked the R32 VW but they did not make the mk5 with a traditional manual. The WRX is only offered in 5 speed and the STI in 6 speed manual.

Actually, the salesman who I worked with told me a story about a customer who he showed my car to the day before I signed the paperwork and drove it home. He said that she was a really cute blond that wanted an STI. After discussing the difference between the new WRX and STI, she wanted to go look at my car. When he asked her if she wanted to drive it, she answered: I can't drive stick. Does it come in an auto?"

A jeep and a new car.......so is that your own house as well? ;? Either way, good for you; stay safe and enjoy it.

I was just talking with a friends boy who can't afford his insurance. One accident when he first got his licence (the accident will stay on his record for five years) and three speeding tickets (one big one). He said his insurance would be a $1,000 per month if he wanted it, instead he is insured under his dad as an occasional driver.

No houses for me yet. The Jeep was a high school graduation gift. Its under my father's name. I'm on the insurance policy as a co-driver. The Subaru on the other hand is in my name and my own insurance policy. Fortunately I don't have a very heavy foot and have never been pulled over for speeding, never even for a warning... knock on wood... If I had any other issues in addition to my careless from a few years back, I don't think I would have been able to pay for the insurance.

Ladyjane, no, Horizontally Opposed 4cyl turbo only. 265hp @6000 rpm 244 ft-lbs tq at 4000 rpm. The car has a ridiculous power-band. 0-60 in high 4 sec range, and the 1/4 in mid 13's. Although I have not tested the validity of these magazine published numbers, I do believe it. This thing gets moving.

Pete, I am a Psychology major at Villanova University. Started my junior year 3 weeks ago.
