Default How many have a Key West?

Hey guys,

So.. I have read SO many threads about the garage fit thing.. it really takes getting the thing to my house and testing to see if it fits in person, I was just curious if anyone here has a Key West 19 foot boat or maybe a Triton 196 Bay Explorer and if they have it in their garage.

I can store one off site.. not a huge deal, I just hate the idea of not being able to go out in the garage and tinker with it or whatever, ya know?

I am sorry to re-hash this, I just am reading as much and as fast as I can to make sure I don't bother you folks with stupid questions.

My garage is like 7ft tall at the opening. I have heard all about the collapsible windshield etc, and am just wondering what you all have done since I have no doubt you all have a lot more experience in this.

Thanks guys.

I had a KW 186 Bay Reef in a 21' garage with a swing tongue trailer. My door is 8' though.

Gotcha, yea.. I could fit a little over 22' in my garage.. I caddy corner it, but it is the height I have to deal with.

How close does your windshield come to the top?

My DOOR is 7ft, but the inside of the garage is actually taller. Not sure if my HoA would let me adjust that.. or my wife.. lol

I can see it now, "Honey.. I know you said I could buy a new boat, but can I spend 5k to make the door bigger to hold a bigger boat?"

Might as well go ahead and shoot me.. grin

TY for the input though

Our garage door is 7' tall. That was one limiting factor when shopping for a smaller boat. The good news is that the garage is almost 28' deep. This allows us to fit our Tidewater 21 without a swing tongue. I modified the windshield and windshield grab rail to lay down and fit under the 7' garage door.

We went with a bay boat style (versus std center console) primarily because they typically have lower center consoles than std center console boats.

A few months ago, my dad bought a new (2008 leftover) KW 186 Sportsman. I dont know exactly the height of the garage but it seems pretty standard 80-85" height. The dealership had to modify the console rail to make it collapsable and the windshield removable...much like onewolf's set up.

It takes one person about 3 mins to put together. With everything off, there is less than 6" clearance from the top of the compass to the garage door.

Of course a break away trailor as well and the boat sits at an angle in the garage. It's all kind of a pain, but it is nice to keep the boat out of the elements.

Well, that is awesome. Thank you so much for the picture, wolf.

I will still keep the garage idea in mind, but I think I will be looking at all options now since I pretty much am giving up everything to get it to fit in the garage.. heh

I would love to have it in there, but maybe the next boat and next house will be better.

I talked to my wife and, so long as the dealership gets me a COVER (grin) for the boat, I am okay with covered storage or enclosed storage off-site, again.. with a canvas cover to help add more protection.

Just means more room in the garage to set up all my other fishing stuff.. muahahaha
