Adm. Thad Allen

We need more men like USCG Admiral Allen leading our country. Distinguished, well spoken and prepared to lead. He knows the facts of the emergency in the Gulf and is prepared to lead with a distinct course of action, something the USA could use in these times.
Well, that's my opinion. What do y'all think?

What exactly is the "course of action"?

We need more people like Billy Nungesser

bamaboy473 06-04-2010 07:44 AM

I had to Bing up Billy Nungesser. Sounds like he's one of the few that are thinking straight...

starmonk 06-04-2010 07:51 AM

Billy is leading the fight that the Federal gov is not doing enough like he also did for the Katrina emergency. The Army Corps of Engineers has stated that Billy's idea to build more barrier islands to protect the shores from the oil slick is too expensive and would take too long.
I do commend him on his initiative to protect his/our environment.

The Admiral is a political appointee and will say and do what he is allowed by the POTUS. I have not seen any leadership and it is quite doubtful he has knowledge of deep water drilling let alone solving well blowouts.

I like the Admiral he has been straight to the point. His position there seem to be more of an observer and spokesperson.

Since when does the federal government care about how much something costs?

The Admiral comes off as a likeable and trustworthy guy, but he is making one BIG mistake IMO. Lately whenever I hear him talking about the repairs to the well that BP is doing he's always saying "we" did this or that - "we were able to shear off the top of the riser pipe."

If I were O'Bama I would tell him to stop saying we, which implies the CG and the government are down there pulling the levers, and instead say BP is doing this or that ( which they are ).

People are becoming so incensed over this the good Admiral should very deliberatly let BP take every bit of blame and responsibility for all these fixes that aren't working, even if the feds are providing "oversight" as he says they are.

Actually, Transocean (RIG) is doing the work.

Regardless, I do not thing its good practice for the U.S. coast guard to even verbally associate themselves with companies that the federal government has opened a criminal investigation on. BP owned the well and is responsible for fixing it, let them take the entire fall.

So basically you are telling us that you have nothing constructive to say and that you have to resort to calling THT members names?
Go put your head in sand elsewhere if you want to continue to slandering us.

Today the newspaper ran a story saying that Thad Allen and Gov. Riley would be meeting "soon" to....to discuss a Response Plan.

I am quickly losing respect for Allen and for his ilk when the Plan at this date is no longer able to be a Response, but rather a Cleanup....and they refer to any such manifest as a Plan...as if they were thinking ahead??

Prove me wrong when I say that we're witnessing some the of the most hamstrung government bureaucracy in history acting as ineptly as possible, given a single event that every agency involved can focus on.

"It will take four-to-six weeks after the leak is stopped in early August to clean up oil slicks on the surface of the water. Cleaning up marshlands and restoring ecosystems will take years, he said."

WOW glad to see the person in charge giving up on stopping the leak with 2 months to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VtSteve has already profusely apologized in another thread. He's an ok guy.
We all get pretty up tight about this situation and sometimes post things we wish we had not.
All is well here on THT!

Drilling the relief wells continue, first shot is at 34%.
They are sucking more oil on to the ENTERPRISE, it will offload to the MASSACHUSETTS today.
