Did anyone get one?
How do you like it?
Who knows where we will be in 5 or 10 years.

I'm typing this on my iPad now. I got it the day the WiFi + 3G came out. I love it. I got the unlimited data plan so when I am on the move I can use the net. I let a lot of friends drive my truck now so I can play on the web. I got the 16gb model because I didn't plan to put anything on it music wise.

Does the data plan require a contract through AT&T and if so what's it cost a month?

There is no contract required, you can go with 250 MB a month for 14.99 or unlimited for 29.99 and cancel whenever you want.

We have one we share at work. It definately has a "quality" about it, typical of iProducts. It's also bigger than I imagined. I don't line the way the screen gets smudged with finger prints; at least the one at work. I'm hot really a bit fan of those capacitive type touch screens. Call me old fashioned, but I like looking at a clean screen.

Really great easy to use intuitive device. Doesn't work in direct sun light well, under a shade outside it works well.

Many software apps, a few great boating and navigation apps.

I've ripped a few movies to it, great picture, very long battery life, like 12 -14 hours of hard usage.

We just got one for the household. It has great battery life and is fun and handy. It is just a big iphone with no phone. Wish it were a touch larger, so the keyboard would more closely approximate a real keyboard when turned landscape.

Great for movies, books, incidental correspondence and fun apps when traveling or lounging. Warning, keep away from children. Just like an Iphone or Itouch, it will turn them into drooling couch potatoes in a matter of minutes.

Unlimited not available for new users anymore:

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2010/06/att-poll-data/

"AT&T this morning announced that its unlimited data plan is being discontinued for new subscribers. (Can’t say we didn’t warn you.) Some people are outraged about the new caps. But we’re betting most people won’t care. First, the basics: The new un-unlimited data plans offers options of 200 MB for $15 a month and 2 GB for $25 a month. If 2 GB ain’t enough, you can tack an extra $10 to your bill for every extra gig."

Personally I would not use ATT if they gave me a lifetime supply of Iphones and Ipads with free upgrades to new hardware.

Iphones are nice but I will not use one since they require ATT.

My son, the PeeCee guy, got one the day it came out. He now also has an iMac, and his 2 daughters have MacBookPros. They have iPhones, too. My 2 daughters also have gone Mac. Apple stuff is a lot like fishing. Catch one and you'll probably get hooked for life. Be warned. YMMV!

I read the change takes effect June 7th, so there may still be time if you want unlimited plan.

we have one of each - wife has wifi and my 3G. Fast and nice.

The 250 3G data plan for $15 is a joke, most people are going thru 500 and that's normal use, not power users. Figure $25 a month if you want 3G. I'd buy the 32 gig wifi unit for general around house work. It's a internet and mail machine, it's not a laptop. People who like apple will love it, and haters will, well you know...nothing changes..Just saw they shipped the two millionth unit yesterday in 60 days - so someone besides fan-boys must like it.

But it is killer to sit on the dock and read your mail with a cold one and a big screen....

Apple Ipad is banking on the success of the iPhone, iTunes combination. Badically, it is a giant iPhone without the phone function but it enhances other features where the iPhone lacks like the Internet.

Apple bussiness model for the past decade shifted to creating new products and capturing markets and they are hiring the right Q's. With music, movies and the Internet all in a sleek mobile easy to use device even a caveman can do it. I leave my American Express Card at home but never my Ipad.
