Default Looks to me like like BP and the feds are on the hook

This is from a WSJ article describing what happened on the rig before it blew. If this is true, BP's own engineers with permission from the federal government people, gave the order to proceed with sealing off the well in a manner that is far out of the ordinary. This is huge. The Halliburton people actually working the process were going to proceed with the normal sequence of events and were given orders not to do so. Holy Crap

A worker who was on the drilling rig said in an interview that Halliburton was getting ready to set a final cement plug at 8,000 feet below the rig when workers received other instructions. "Usually we set the cement plug at that point and let it set for six hours, then displace the well," said the worker, meaning take out the mud.
According to this worker, BP asked permission from the federal Minerals Management Service to displace the mud before the final plugging operation had begun. The mud in the well weighed 14.3 pounds per gallon; it was displaced by seawater that weighed nearly 50% less. Like BP, the MMS declined to comment on this account.

Default Mother always said, Stupid is as stupid does

If this is true then I commend the guy that came forward at great risk. I was on the same floor of a building collapse in 03 that killed and maimed many. after staying and trying to help the injured and then wondering what else could have been done to prevent it from happening. I myself notified the safety people osh{it}a of some bad moves by the contractor. its a little scary at first but you feel better exposing some of the crap these upper level people try just to impress someone at the top about the money that was saved$$$???
