Default eCheck Payment Via PayPal?

I have been selling stuff on eBay for 10 years and I have a 100% positive feedback rating.

I just sold an item for a little over $4,000. and the buyer has made payment via an eCheck on PayPal. I have never rec'd an eCheck pmt before. I looked them up and it is an alternate form of payment that is used rather than an instant payment from their account and it can take 3 to 5 days to clear my acct.

The buyer is from the U.S. and only has a rating of 30, but with 100% positive feedback. The past purchases have only been as high as around $500 but for the same type of item that I sold.

PayPal isn't clear on my protection with accepting an eCheck as payment.

Has anyone had any experience with accepting an eCheck and why would someone use an eCheck vs. an instant payment when it comes from the same account?

Thanks!

Thanks!

I have purchased stuff from eBay as well, but I have always used my PayPal balance to pay for the items.

Why would someone use an eCheck? Not enough $$$ in their PayPal acct?

Correct. I believe that an eCheck comes from the buyer's bank account, so if their PP balance isn't enough to cover the transaction, they can debit their bank account with the eCheck.

It is the same as someone writing you a check and when the funds clear it will send you a notice of it clearing. Just another form of payment. Even members here on THT have given me a E-Check

Thanks guys!

I'm starting to feel a little better about this sale... (this is my first high-dollar sale on eBay/PayPal so I was a little hesitant about it in the first place and then this eCheck thing happens...).

I have a PP account but Ive never sold anything on using it, so I have no paypal balance to use. My PP is on a bank account I opened just for that purpose using the visa credit/debit card on the bank account. It may just be that the sender doesnt have a debit or credit card and used their actual checking account to register with PP so thats how they have to send the money. I wouldnt worry about it, I believe PP covers it the same way as their other charges.

Make sure the guy is verified! I got beat on a sale and the guy was not verified so I was unable to get refunded because of a false address.
