Default Question for submariners

Quick bit of history before the question. My son is on a boomer. His crew is now in predeployment refit. They are working 24/7 doing repairs.

When he is duty officer , he works 36 or more hours straight.

My question is this, How can the boat need so much repairs if it just came back from a deployment?

I would think they would need a load out of food, toilet paper and porn and they are good to go. It's not like they used up their Tridents and need a new supply.

If that much shit went tits up you would think they would have had to return to base.

There is prolly not much of anything wrong. They prolly check, and triple-check every system, bolt and screw on board. Takes time.

My brother served on subs. From what I saw it wasn't just repairs but there were constant upgrades.

yes. comfort/wear and tear issues. system upgrades on the inside. then wear and tear repair on the exterior hull.

..................what do you think an apartment would look like with a 100 or so guys living and working out of it 24/7. wait until women come aboard, they'll be lucky to ever leave the pier.
