Default AR-15s

Going to the gun show this weekend to bring home a AR-15 just so I will have one when the Libs try to take them away. I went to the last show just to narrow down brands. I really like the Stag Arms. A dealer had them for 1050.00 out the door with one clip and a hard case. Any one have feedback on this or other brands and what are you paying? Here in SC I can be in and out in 45 min gun in hand, rifle or hand gun. God I love this state.

During the craze about 9 months ago I picked up a new flat top DPMS with 2 mags and a hard case for 799.00

Here is one for 720.00 bucks. DPMS is supposedly Mil spec. Mine shoots fine and for the money I am very happy.

I am going to get one to but I like the new ruger little more money but comes with good sights and rail system. This state if the tele lines for back ground check are not tied up in and out in 20 minutes we also have free carry conceld. For a lib state it is hard to understand!

I have the Colt "16" match target and have been very happy with it. If I were going to mount a real scope I would get one with rails. Good luck.

stags are great weapons. If its a basic configuration that seems a little high on price.

Keep in mind, prices are actually coming down for AR's. I am a Bushmaster fan but it's hard to go wrong with any of the major mfg's. Colt, Ruger, DPMS, Bushmaster, Stag, Rock River, etc.

Here's my latest.

Check our ar15.com to learn about the different brands (and everything else ar15 related)

It's like THT except they discuss what brand of ar's are upper tier, etc.

the biggest thing is to get one that is milspec. i started with a dpms mil spec what would have been called "pre-ban" lower and then built everything else on it from the ground up. i ended up with a bushmaster m-4 flattop upper and went with gg&g rear and front flip up sights and an eotech holo sight. my house gun is in essence just as solid as my work gun, just minus a peq-2. this is one of my favorite accesory manufacturers. http://www.gggaz.com/ also if your gonna pony up that kind of coin, i wouldbuild my own gun from a receiver and put a piston driven upper on it vs. the traditional stoner gas system.

I picked up a DPMS flat top with 16" match grade bull barrel back in the craze for $900 and have been very happy with it. Fun to shoot and insanely accurate. $1050 for the Stag seems high. Cabelas (local) was advertising the S&W M&P for $900 a couple of weeks ago. They have definitely come down lately.

LIKE ELUSIVE SAID...spend a lot of time on AR15.COM before you buy...lots of education...I am a former USMC Armorer and definitely have an opinion about AR's...sometimes less is more...you can spend a lot of money and get a good gun...or you can spend a lot less money and get a great gun...with $$$ left over for optics...

Me personally I have a Bushmaster M4Gery (M4 clone) carry handle with a scout rail and an Aimpoint M2 Sight...pretty damned sweet setup if I say so myself...I built the gun from scratch with BM parts and with the rail and scope I've got $1100 tied up in it and nearly $450 of that was scope, do the math...all parts bought on AR15.COM except the BM Lower reciever...you should be able to pick one up locally thru the Penny Pincher or similar weekly sales magazine (seems like every community has one) from an individual for about the some or less than thru a dealer and no paperwork, no trail of your purchase for uncle sam to follow and as long as you are a law abiding citizen perfectly legal...think about it...spend some time at AR15.COM you wont regret it...and with the money you'll save buy MAGAZINES, GOOD ONES and 20 is not enough, store them away for a rainy day...and dont forget AMMO...watch out the reloading bug might bite...

For your info my Dept. is equipped with Olympic AR's. They recently did an evaluation of the DPMS AR's and our range staff found them to be exceptional in almost every way to our low bid Olympics and the DPMS's seem to be lower in price to most AR's... I know they aren't Colts but for the average person seem like good values.

DPMS warranty is great too. Lifetime transferable. Don't get too caught up in the whole mil-spec. It doesn't neccessarily mean its a better rifle, all it means is that it meets the specifications required by the military. Alot of things that met mil-spec were catastrophic failures.

I have a Stag Arms M4 A3 and love it. I have had 3 Bushmasters and 1 Colt. When I went to buy another AR15 the Bushmasters were outragous in price. The Stag came with the larger forward grip, removable handle A3, and the tactical sling mount. All that for around $300 dollars less than a Bushmaster at the time.

I like the Rock River AR a lot. You can get a Rock River Elite Operator for $1060.00 + Tax. It includes the free floating barrel, sight options, Rock River scope rings (30mm or 1" ($100.00 value)), a hard case, and a few other options. Your local gun dealer should be able to do this deal if not, i know my guys here in Winterville, NC can. Here is a link:

What about the dpms rflp wcp sportical? Is this basically the same gun as the above dpms? It seems you can add a scope alot easier. And the price is getting near my side of the tracks.
