Default Pistol Range in SF Bay Area?

After reading all of the threads about handguns lately I want to find a pistol range in the East Bay of San Francisco where I can go and get some instruction on using various different types of handguns. I don't own any weapons so will need the range to provide the weapons as well as instruction.

Any ideas where I should look?

By way of background I am ex-Navy so have some weapons training, but have not touched one for many years.

So where in the East Bay can I find a range that has handguns for hire and instructors to go along with them?

If you ever find your way near Concord MA I'll take you to the club.

I'm in LE so I use our range which is of no help to you, but you might try looking up the number (or web site) for the Chabot Gun Club in Castro Valley (above Lake Chabot), the San Leandro Rifle & Pistol Range down near the dead end of Davis St by the dumps (oh, sorry, the Waste Mgmt "materials recovery facility" ) and the Livermore Gun Club.

That should get you started.

Fire away!!!

Or for an up close and personal "training course", go to any street corner in Richmond wearing a Rolex and you'll be shown the common and practical use of a wide range of assault weapons in no time!!! LOL

Back when I lived out there, this is where we'd go:

Nice folks, but I haven't been there in years, I have gone from East Bay to East Coast!
There was an outdoor range out in the hills between Concord and Antioch we'd use as well, for pistols and rifles, but I can't remember the name or exact location. Could well be houses and shopping centers now.

Hey AB, I see you posted while I was composing! I used to go to Chabot too. But I think San Leandro is exactly what he is looking for.

^^^^^^

The Brentwood Gun Club was up in that direction. They closed down. I don't know if that is what you were thinking of though...

I took my Hunter's Safety Course at Chabot. I was 11 years old and passed 100%.

Back in the late 70's, I was trying to get into LE so I took a security job. I was trained for firearms, mace and baton at the SL range.

Great place!

Do you remember Trader's on East 14th?

Feds (essentially) shut them down. Too many of their "sold" weapons were ending up in the hands of crooks in Oakland. That and they couldn't account for hundreds of missing inventory weapons...

Yes, Traders was a central part of my youth. My Dad and I would get supplies there and out at Hogan's in Concord. I'm pretty sure my father got his 30 '06 there and my mom a 30-30.

I could tell some tales about life in Oakland in the 60's and 70's; I knew some interesting people.

Excellent. Thank you and yes it did help. San Leandro is right by where I live, but unfortunately they don't offer weapons for hire.

The Chabot Gun Club looks like it is the go, with various courses on offer, as well as private tuition.

I will give them a call this week and see what I can do about getting out there for a refresher on my firearms education.

I used to visit Burlington, MA quite frequently in my old job, but now I have not been to Boston for over 18 months. Thanks for the offer anyway.
