Default Herbal remedies

Anyone use Saw Palmetto for prostate health? Everything is normal (had urological check-up) but I do get up a few times at night to "go" so I thought I'd try it. I've never put too much stock in herbal remedies in the past.

That is not abnormal. I also am very skeptical of the Saw P. I would see a physician and if there isn't anything like a really enlarged prostrate or other underlying medical condition - I would try to live with it. I used to get up every couple hours then after a few years it went away and now its once a night. There may be other life style/dietary things you can do too.

Good Luck

That's exactly what the uro told me: since there is no medial issue, it's a lifestyle thing and either get used to it or figure out what's causing it.

Not a big believer. Though I do take omega-3 and flaxseed for the ol' triglycerides/cholesterol.

I hate my urologist, granted he saved my life from prostate cancer but I swear he delights in keeping me from having sex, with a casodex pill daily ($15.00 retail each) and a lupron shot ($2,700.00 retail each) in the butt every four months. The preceding drugs stop the production of testosterone in the body. Fortunately the VA helps with the cost of the above drugs.

Up four or five times a night is no big deal, if everything above keeps me alive to go boating and fishing.

Life is good.

Ohhhhhh.....the old saying is true....."if you think you have it bad, just wait a minute and it wont be so bad" ..or something similar to that.

I take Saw Palmetto every day and do feel that it works. It took several weeks or a couple of months to feel a difference, so give it time to work. According to my doc, it can't hurt to try it.

My doctor prescribed a gallon of propleyen glycol 24 hours before the exam, I couldn't even drink half of it before just looking at it made me gag, went to the pharmacy and bought 2 bottles of manesuim citrate that did the trick. My brothers doctor prescribed Fleet Enema in a one shot deal that he said was so bad he had to mask it with a shot of scotch or something. When I have to do it again I will start 3 days before eating light with the last day only chicken broth and magnesuim citrate.

Hey Ray sorry to hear of the ol prostrate issues. I see you are a veteran an probbaly know this - But for everyone's information also, Prostate cancers and many other related illnesses (including type II diabetes) are automatic qualifications for disability (presumptive result of Agent Orange exposure) for those that served in country in Nam. I just recently found out They do not exactly advertise these things. For any vets that may qualify - get your papers in ASAP - as the payments start from the day you apply. Lots of info on the VA web-site and other web resources....

Take care

Main advice is Don't sweat it - I just got back from the gastro - thought I had a major case of diverticulitis - turnes out it somehting else - but have to get the test again in 6 weeks. I have had probably 5 so far due to some issues - I really don't get excited about it anymore. They make it basically totally painless and relatively dignified - the prep is a pain in th eass - but its like a short bought of diahreea and you KNOW what its from and that it will be over soon. And cancers and othe rissues in the colon are very very cureable if detected early.

Have fun

When I went to the address for the new building today turne dout to be an eye doctors office - I asked where is the Gastro guys/ She said - without even a smile and I am sure no knowledge of the pun - in the rear.

I am suprised he didn't push some pills on you - there are lots out there - all with SIDE EFFECTS. You do know that there may be some element of your livestyle that can help this - like drink less coffee or maybe even alcohol, or lose weight, or don't eat or drink too much at night , less hi sugar foods, make a constant bed-time, or maybe intake more salt, etc. I don't really know what helped me go from one per hour to 2 per night, but I did reduce drinking and did start taking fiber supplements for a separate issue at about that time. PS I drink a lot of mostly non-alcohol fluids.
