Saying Goodbye to our Hunting Buddy
3 Attachment(s)
Our family member and hunting partner is gone today. My Brotherís French Brittany, Luke, was kept from suffering any longer.

For 13 years he was my brothers only companion and I feel for him today.

Iím not really sure why Iím typing this, I really donít read posts like this often, as they are too sad and Iíd rather be disconnected.

There are those that keep have hunting dogs and those that have pets as hunting dogs. Luke was family.

I am sure that in the coming days, we will remember him with smiles as we recount the anomalies of the personality of a pointing dog, but today is hard as we fight the self pity of losing someone we love.

Thats tough buddy. Time will help ease it. The loss of a dog like that isn't really like losing a dog, they are, like you said, a big part of the family. I have a black lab that I hunt with but he comes inside and hangs out with the family and friends and when something happens to him I am not sure how i will handle it. I hope you make it through it OK and remember that he can't be replaced even if you do get another dog because none of them are the same as the last one. Sorry to hear the news.

So sorry for your loss Mike. They are family..:(

a good dog is a very big part of the family. Cannot be replaced but a new one can take up the slack in a different way. Hang in there.

Hang in there, you all did the right thing.

Sorry to hear that, atleast Luke had a full time companion in your brother and was able to hunt and do what he was meant to do.

Sorry for the loss.

Family is an under statement. They listen when no one else will and never complain.
Gods speed.

Sorry for your loss. I have three dogs myself and they are like my kids. I lost a dog over a year ago, and it is tough. But you can take comfort in all those years that they were with you and how they are always happy to see you.

Sorry for your loss. Time will heal. We are on our 5th Golden and it ain't never easy. As painful as it is to lose one I don't understand why we keep getting another puppy. Come to think of it, yes I do. ;)

I feel for your loss!
Dogs ARE family members! Ones you WANT
to hang with!

Unfortunately I know how he feels all to well. This past friday we had to put down our just 5yr old Golden. Sweetest dog, who loved children.

Sorry for the loss of part of the family, I hope this is OK with you. The first photo is a great shot of Luke. I just took out the large piece of grass or weed that was in front of him.

Dogs do that, they become family. Sorry for your loss.

I jus lost my pal Rufus, 13 years of undying love and devotion has a real impact ,when they are gone your heart just aches to see or hear them again. The only comfort is knowing that you did right by him when he needed you to make the tough decision and prevent his suffering. Now think good thoughts and remember him forever. God I miss his bark!!

Iím so sorry to hear that. Our pets are part of our family. They are our children or should I say dependants. Either way we love them and they love us. We talk to them and they listen. They entertain us. They pick us up when we are down. They make us laugh and smile. They are always glad to see us. They never let us down. My Golden Retriever and Chesapeake Bay retriever are a special part of my life. I get tears just thinking about the day they go to heaven. My condolences to you and your family.
