Default Linksys router problems??

Admiral and I have noticed our laptops are kind of slow and when I look at the wireles connection we are picking up one of the neighbors internet connection.

When I do the wireless networks available most are locked except the one we are picking up and when I see ours (just says linksys) I see a red X through it.

I have checked the cable modem all seems fine and done the unplug and power off and back on but still same thing

What else to I need to do, this router is a fairly new one, had to replace it last year sometime

Set yours to default if I remember right or secure it.

read the manual that came with it, and make it your prefered network, and add a password. But it sounds like its broken, because it should pick the stronger signal , which should be yours. Try just pluging the cable from your wire less into your laptop, make sure your networks working.

Thanks, I will do that tonight to see if it is the cable or modem, seems like I had to reset old one a time or two before

First thing I would do is log into the linksys and change your SSID so you know whose is whose (that will be you site broadcast name)

second thing would be to change the channel, If there are many AP in the area on the same channel there will be interference.

Third is to reset you default conn to your newly programed SSID.

FYI: program the linksys through an ethernet connection, and setup WPA encryption

first thing I would do is re-boot it. Then if that doesn't fix it, you can log in and re-configure it.

linksys were great until cisco bought them, gone to hell now.
