Try slamming it against the wall and "accidently" hitting a nail used to hang a picture. Does wonders for the screen.

Oh wait, nevermind...That's what I ended up doing with my 13 year old son's Ipod Touch when he became too addicted to it.

Yep, nevermind.

Have you tried to do a hard restart? This involves holding down the home button (the round one) and the power button until the apple logo shows up on the screen.

Connect it up and default the thing, if the above reset does not work.

Apple phone support is very good. If restoring fails, give them a call

If they were downloaded with another person's account they will not work. You can check this by trying to download an app and see what account it asks for. I would re-download the apps.

The thing worked fine out of the box, except that youtube would not connect. My daughter downloaded a bunch of apps that all worked.

We were at my nephews house and he said he could fix youtube. He did, but now only the apps that came pre-loaded work. The other ones open and close.

I tried apple website but could not get it to load where I could arrange for a telephone call.

any ideas with this additional information?

well if your nephew hacked the code to fix youtube, it may have really messed things up.

i would remove the apps that don't work and try to re-download. if that doesn't work, then hook it up to the computer you use to synch it and run the "restore defaults". that will wipe out your apps, but at least you'll be starting fresh.

if you've purchased any apps, be sure to use the same itunes account to download them on the restored ipod. if you paid for them once, itunes will recognize this, so you won't have to pay for the same app again.

Like I said above (from Apple):

If you sign in to itunes with your daughter's account the apps will work.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311

Summary

When you sync your iPhone or iPod touch with your computer using iPhone OS 2.2.1 or earlier, the account last used to access the iTunes Store from the computer is synced to the mobile device for use in the iTunes Store from the device as well. This same account is used for the App Store as well. This account will be used on the device for both stores until you sign in from your computer to the iTunes Store with a different account, and then resync your mobile device with the computer.
If you're using iPhone OS 3.0 or later, refer to iPhone and iPod touch: How to create an iTunes Store account to create a new account on your device.

Products Affected

iPhone, iTunes Store, iTunes, iPod touch

When you sync your iPhone or iPod touch, the iTunes application on the computer will share its current iTunes Store account ID with the device you are syncing. This account ID will be used to make purchases from the iTunes Store and App Store on the mobile device.
The account ID that was synced to the device is displayed at the bottom of each page of the iTunes Store, so you'll always know what account you are using on the device. Simply open iTunes on your mobile device and scroll to the bottom of any page to see which account is currently in use.
Changing Your Account

It is not possible to change the account in use on the device itself or to sync multiple accounts to your mobile device. To change the account you are using on your mobile device, go to your computer and sign in to the iTunes Store with the account you want to use on your mobile device, then sync your iPhone or iPod touch with your computer again. This will transfer the new account information to the mobile device. To sign in or out of an account in iTunes choose Store > Sign In (or Sign Out).
Editing Your Account Information

It is not possible to change your account information from your mobile device. You can view and change your iTunes Store account information using iTunes on your computer by choosing Store > View My Account.

Apple
1-800-275-2273, press 0 at each prompt ignoring the messages. You will then be put into line. Have your serial number ready. Your wait should not be any longer than 10 minutes. Apples customer service is very good.

I have a similar problem with free apps that I download. I think what happens I have to either update the app or the app stops becoming free so it won't open any more. I have had this happen to a bunch of free games I have downloaded.
