Take your time..I had to have two of them. The first one lasted about a year. The second was done with the mesh and that was 25 yrs ago. Wish i had that one done first. Seems to be a good fix.....

I had the mesh in an umbilical hernia and it took about 4 weeks to be mostly out of pain. I know it isn't the same as yours but same technique.

I had one a few years ago and had the mesh the old fashioned way. I gotta tell you it was really painful but the drugs were good. I agree with David, 4 weeks. The first week is the worse. I think I was out of work 1 week if I remember right.

By the way, I do still have pain on occasion.

By the way if you smoke, I would stop. You do NOT want to cough or sneeze the first week. Trust me on that one.

I'll second that, take your time. You have to let the scar tissue form around the mesh. It will take a few months to feel "Normal" and even then you have to watch what you do but as time goes on, you may even forget you had it done. If you start to do something and feel a tug, stop.

Two days after I had mine, I sneezed and the sudden tug on my stomache muscles had me on the floor crying like a baby. Fortunately, no damage done. Went back to work in about a month.

Started running again after five months and playing golf a year later. Things went back to normal but never went back to the gym for weight lifting. Every now and then I would do something where I knew exactly where the mesh was and I stopped what I was doing but as time goes on, you'll feel that less and less.

Enjoy the time off from the "Honey-do" list

I had that surgery a few years back. I was out of work for a week laying around but was still going out boozing every night. I had a pump type thing that pushed local anestetic into the cut so that probably helped alot. I though having 4 impacted wisdom teeth was much worse.

I do however still have some occasional pain and i can feel the mesh sometimes.

I Had right side liguinial hernia mesh surgery about 7 years ago. No problems.
Went back to work too soon and the staples were uncomfortable. After one month I was better than new.
No issues since. the surgeon did tell be the other side will probably need to addressed in the future as this is genetic........

I got the mesh 4 or 5 years ago. Recovery was worse than I expected, 4 weeks sounds about right. My hernia still talks to me on occasion to tell me I'm over doing it and to slow down.

Had it done at the ripe old age of 24. I remember laying on the couch or in bed for a week either playing Nintendo or watching TV. Wasn't too bad except for my left nut swelling about 10x the size of the right.
Scar tissue still hurts every once in a while.

Had it done this past September. It was some of the worst pain I ever experienced but only lasted a few days and thereafter very uncomfortable for about a week. I took pain medication for only two days as that stuff makes me feel loopy to the point of annoyance. I don't like it when thought is s.....l......o......w. A beer buzz is one thing however I can still think. I feel like an astronaut when taking Vicodin. Some people love the stuff but it is not my thing although I would take it again to help subdue such intense pain. My surgery was done laparoscopically. The area was tender for a couple weeks post surgery. I feel like it took a couple of months to feel back to being 100% again. I caught a couple of Amberjacks four days post surgery. The surgeon was NOT happy but I reminded him that he told me to do whatever activities I felt OK with doing at my discretion. I was very careful however strongly suggest you NOT plan on doing anything vigorous for at least two weeks.

Make sure your mesh does not have any problems or recalls

One of my sales guys had a hernia operation done 10/2008. He was having a very difficult time with it. Hospital stay was two days, within a week he was back in to have it drained. This lasted 5 weeks until they realized their was something wrong with the mesh. Today his is fine, but since the original surgery he spend a total of 9 weeks in the hospital and was in and out a total of 11. He had no plans on suing until one of the nurses told him somebody really F***** UP. He has since settled out of court with the surgery team and the manufacture of the mesh.
