Default What to paint/stain/seal adirandack chairs?

Ordered two Adirondack (sorry about the title misspelling) Chairs from an outfit in NC. These are yellow pine and unfinished. I will assemble them and will need to stain/paint them.

These will sit outside adjacent to the salt marsh next to my fire pit. The harshest of environments for pine.

I'm confused about water based urethane vs oil based. I'm thinking of a Mahogony stain (for the hell of it) What products will last outside next to the salt marsh.

Recommendations please.

Personally I hate the maintenance of something like paint or varnish that can peel. i would personally go with a stain and wood preservative. worst case, you can always varnish or paint them later.

Regardless of what you do, i would apply a coat of stain then sealer (if sealing), primer if painting or stain with thinned varnish BEFORE you assemble. If you only apply the finish of your choice after assembly there will certainly be areas remaining that are unsealed that moisture will eventually find its way into the wood and affect the finish (peeling, etc..). Sorta similar to back priming siding before putting it up.
