Default Can Bank Of America Suck more?

I just found out that because I used an ATM to deposit a check (Cashiers check from a credit union) BOA will hold my check for 9 days.

I just got off the phone with their Customer "service" folks who told me I probably should not have deposited it in the ATM. But they would be happy to cover any fees I should encounter based on the extended hold time. When I asked if that meant I should cut a check for a $30,000 car and just forward them the bounced check penalties, my "manager" got a little quiet.

It would be cool to think that 20 years with the bank, and direct deposit/bill pay use means anything, but I am not that stupid.

It will probably take me a full day to transition everything over to my credit union, but it will feel good. Shame BOA will probably buy them next week.

Nice work BOA. If you sucked anymore you would have to call yourself an insurance company

No, bank of amigos cannot suck any more that it does now. In fact, I think it's unfair to banks that DO suck to say boa sucks. They need to get better to suck...

Invest in private banks local to you that have a big balance sheet and owe no one

Yep, I agree and will be looking for a new bank soon, been with them since 1991, through various name changes/acquisitions.

They are the worst - I just closed out my account Monday - very bad service and bad unreasonable rules.

Yep, BoA sucks. Paid off the boat loan and canceled the credit card I had for 6 years with them.

I have a car loan with Chase, they haven't pissed me off yet.

My wife and I are closing our 16 year relationship with Citizens Bank - they are owned by Royal Bank of Scotland - because they have suddenly decided to suck. No doubt due to the problems at RBS. Too bad, they were good for a long time.

We are going with a smaller, locally owned, Eastern MA bank who we hope will not begin to suck.

I do some personal banking with Citz.No issues so far. All my biz banking is with a great local business-focused bank called Centrix (buy their stock) and some other personal stuff with TD, Of course, Boston Private is the best there is...

I've been with BOA for 21 years now and never had a problem with them. They've treated me very well over the years... including when someone used a legitimate check of mine to make forgeries with another name on my account. BOA didn't give me any shit about it, replaced all the money to my account immediately and got my new account setup pronto.

Overall ... I can't think of any problems I've had with them. Imagine my dismay to learn about a year ago of their policy to loan money to ILLEGALS here in the States. I've been on the fence... I REALLY can't stand that policy.... but I'm not sure I'm ready to end a 21 year good relationship over it. I've thought about a locally owned bank... but I travel a lot for work and BOA is very convenient no matter where I go.

Default They are all doing it

I have a Cap One and GE card I use for my business along with a Chase card for personal stuff. All of them have doubled interest rates on unpaid balances with this months statement along with draconian late payment fees. Thanks again to our stupid stupid stupid politicians ignoring the laws of unintended consequences. Any dipsh*t should have been able to surmise that if you impose more laws and regulations on these companies they will just find a way around it. I fired off and e-mail to both senators and congressman thanking them for their "help". Of course one of my senators claims that she knows global climate change is true because her plane flights are bumpier than they were ten years ago. ...........What else would I expect from brain power of that magnitude?

Wow, USAA came out with an I Phone app that lets you use your camera to deposit a check.

We have BOA for a mortgage because they purchased our loan.

I am the majority owner of a local 12 branch bank with $355,000,000 in deposits. Big banks like BOA are the reason that we have been able to not only stay competitive throughout this recession, but have been able to grow. In an area of the country hit hard by the current economic situation (FL), we have had to foreclose on only 8 properties and have only had loan losses of $460,000. The attitudes of these big banks is that you need them more than they need you, and our attitude could not be more opposite. Our bread and butter is our small business customers and individuals, and we work very hard to keep them happy. Our employees will go above and beyond to help a customer in any way possible, as long as it is legal, and our tellers know you by name, not just a number. I suggest that any of you who are fed up with the big bank treatment open an account at a community bank and experience this difference first hand.

I used to have B of A process my credit cards. I switched to a different company after I could not get service out of B of A. Since they have access to my bank account to make deposits, they also have access to take money out! So far they have pull just shy of $500 out of my business account. Why? They cant even tell me! I have to fight and argue, then write a letter of dispute, then wait, the I am sure fight even more! Those son of a bitches!

My bank cannot stop the withdraws either, I thought we had a block in place after the last time but 2 days ago they hit me again! I have also received a letter from some collections company saying I owe B of A another $119! Called B of Asses, they dont know why the letter was sent to me!

Just like I told them over the phone- I hope all their branches burn to the ground! The hell with our government supporting companies run like this as well. I am going back to a credit union!!!!

Oh ya- dont get me started on American Express- those are some dumb, worthless, sacks of sh$% right there!

I had been banking with BOA for 15 years (Nations Bank back then) until recently when I moved my business to BB&T. Over the past few years they have catered more and more to the amigos. Most of the branches around here have a high ranking officer who is bi-lingual and seems to be needed for some drawn out language barrier driven problem everytime I went in lately. Several months ago when I saw on the news they would open accounts for anyone without all the I.D. they required from me when I opened an account told me I was being a victim of reverse discrimination. Don't they know this is THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA, discrimination goes one way here, get it right.

I've been with BB&T for a month, happy so far.

A Florida man was unable to cash a Bank of America check because the bank required a thumbprint, and he had no arms.
WTSP has the story of Steve Valdez, who tried to cash a Bank of America check written by his wife to him. He took the check to a BoA branch, presented two forms of picture ID, and was prevented from cashing the check because he couldn't provide a thumbprint. The manager refused to accommodate Valdez, suggesting that he open an account if he wanted to cash the check.
We've written before about consumers' discomfort about having to provide fingerprints for business transactions. Some readers have pointed out to their banks that there's nothing in the Uniform Commercial Code about requiring a thumbprint for negotiable instruments. In this case, Valdez also told the bank that they might be violating the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Also, there's this: In July, Bank of America admitted that they keep a database of the thumbprinted checks. Wonderful.

Capn Hank,

I just had to post the text of the article you linked to. I can tell you that who ever trained the teller at the above branch also handles the folks at the 1800 number,

I was pretty angry last night, Now that morning is here turns out I am still pissed. I need to get my love on before I head over to the branch.

Here is my favorite exchange from last night,

Me "so you are telling me that because I used your ATM to depositthis check (something I do ALL the time), The money will not be available to me for 9 days, and it will not be available to the party who wrote me the check? So I can't use MY money to buy a car this week?"

BOA Manager "of course you can. You can still write a check.

Me "How can I write a check if it has not cleared?"

BOA Mangler "You can use the balance in you account of (an amount that would fix the tranny).

Me "Have you been listening to anything I have been saying to you?"

BOA " I have no clue what she actually said at this point, as a red haze was enveloping my my brain, and heading across my vision"

Me "Thanks for you time, this has been a serious waste of my energy, thanks for that."

I get that this post will have no impact, and kind of makes me look like a raving lunatic. In my defense, I have been dealing with Nationswide, Allstate, and now BOA, and It is finally dawning on me how rigged the game really is.

I wish I had a tree that needed chopping down. Instead I get to spend the day talking to Used car dealers.

On a side not, I am the only guy in the world who cannot get a dealer to take $1 off the list on a used car. I made two offers yesterday - 5% off the list, and they countered with the list. And they let me walk out the door. My man power is at an all time low. I might just take my car to the full service station and ask them to check the air in my tires, or I might just go upstairs and make some cupcakes.

You asked if BOA could suck anymore than it does now.

All you have to do is give them a little more time and you will not be disappointed.

You are correct, this post will have no impact whatsoever. However, I think that anyone who has dealt with BOA will be very understanding of your maniacal rant.

Yes, I believe with a little more effort and some additional govt. assistance, it could suck more.

I feel your pain Bro. I'm driving a 96 F 250 w/180,000 on it, not because I can't afford a new one, but because I'm intimidated by car dealers. It's like I got a infared target painted on my forehead that only they can see or something.
I got a better chance of getting 2,000,000 miles out of my truck and seeing Elvis live in concert than getting $100 off list at a car dealer.
