Default Texting Question

I had somebody tell me that texting will work in fringe reception areas when regular calls won't go through. Is there any truth to this?

Seems to me a signal is a signal whether you text or talk.

It works when I cannot make calls simply because it will quickly send the message when it has service. If you have no service at all it won't work.

Data will often work in ultra low signal scenarios, wheras voice will not. Something to do, I think, with how each is packaged for transmission.

As above, I've gotten texts through (most phones will retry for a certain period of time) offshore when it was impossible to make a call. A signal that lasts for 1/2 a second is no good for a call but its plenty for a text.

Well, you realize what this means don't you?

I'm gonna have to tell the wife she was right.

Big Al
Bumped in honor of our fallen hero.

Hey Al, if you're lurking, at least they didn't strip you of all that high-dollar hardware you bought to support this place. Seems like when I got sent to band camp a while back, my wheel went with me.

Can I borrow an anchor while you're away?

Wait a minute, why am I asking a guy a question when he can't respond?

Thanks Al, I promise I won't get it dirty.
