Default Boom! (Space Shuttle scared the crap out of me)

Just curious if anyone else had their house shook this morning? I ran out to check the propane tank thinking it blew up.....

Yeah, I was afraid my propane tank had blown up this morning too. Turns out it was the still.

I was living in Ojai, CA for a while back in the mid 1980's and i'll never forget the first time i heard the space shuttle sonic boom echo through that valley. At first, i thought the Russians had blown up LA. Pretty impressive.

I was in a double-wide construction trailer in Naples for my first Shuttle Boom. I thought someone rammed the trailer!

I was fishing at the Chandeleur Islands on a cloudless day one time when what sounded like a thunderclap from 10 feet away went off. Scared the crap out of me. All I could think of was a nuclear attack. Then I saw the fighter-jet do a barrel-roll barely visible high in the sky.

I've watched two shuttle launches in person, but I've never seen one come back. It's been years since I heard a sonic boom as a kid living in eastern NC. I was hoping maybe they'd let one of the Blue Angles go supersonic during their show a few weeks ago, but no such luck.

I worked at Cape Canaveral about 15 years ago on one of the vertical assembly buildings but I had never been there for a launch. They did a launch and that was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen. The sound and vibration was unbelieveable, anyone who hasn't witnessed this should never pass it up if given the opportunity. It was September and that night we had a hail storm that went from the coast to the other side of Orlando destroying cars and property. I always wondered if the two were connected. Hail in Florida in September? Spooky!

I was lucky enough to see the very first space shuttle launch. It was easily the most impressive thing i ever saw in my life. Should be on everyone's "bucket list". Wish i had been there for one of the Apollo launches, though.

Here in Davie i heard a double boom near 10-10:30am. It actually shook the windows. Is that what it was? Davie is a long way from the Kennedy Space Center.

This was the approach track today:

You get used to it around here but I still notice every time it passes. I have actually seen the shuttle fly over on its return to KSC. We are about 15 mile S-SE of the Shuttle Landing facility.

They are rolling Discovery out to the pad Monday.

I'd bet that was it.

That first launch I saw was a night launch, and I watched it from Lakeland. It lit up the whole damn parking lot of the apartment complex I was living in at the time. No sound, but lots of light. I couldn't believe I could see that thing so clearly from that far away.

Second launch was one I watched by boat on the Banana River. Sucker was damn near out of sight before the sound made it to us. When it did finally arrive, it was really something. I forget how far away we were, but we were as close as security would allow.

I am in Melbourne Beach and could have swore someone dropped two cinder blocks on my roof.
