Odd expression. Up here it would be a non-rust-"bucket". Either way I'm keeping my 2500 diesel Ram.

Mac, I'd like to keep it under $15k if possible, but for the right truck, I'd go higher...

Go to The Diesel Place.com and check it out. 2500HD for sale all the time there. Bottom of page in marketplace.

Had one of mine for sale here on THT for 6 months, no bites. I'm guessing I was too high. I ended up keeping it.

I was offered 15K once, but declined. Maybe you can use it as a guide for what you might end up spending.

That's pretty reasonable based on what I've found...

I would agree.

If I was looking for a used diesel truck with some miles on it I would look for a '03 ot '06 Dodge, up here you will not find too many 6 speeds, but the 48RE automatic, which is in the '03 to '06 Dodge trucks is a pretty decent automatic though it does not have all the bells and whistles of the Torque shift or Allison.
I would pick the Dodge as the better pick over GM or Ford for the simplicity of the engine, buying used with some miles it will be cheaper and easier to repair if needed.
If you go GM and it is 4WD be aware the transfer cases have a high failure rate on higher mileage trucks, it is an expensive repair.
