Default Bay Bridge Commute

Hey guys,

I'm a college student and I may be working in Annapolis this summer, but I live in the Smyrna, DE area. I think it's going to be too expensive to live in Annapolis for the summer, so I am thinking of commuting everyday from Delaware, but I'm not looking forward to crossing the bridge everyday. Does anyone make a similar commute and is traffic really as bad as I've heard? I can deal with a little slow down but does traffic really crawl over the bridge everyday during the rush hours? Thanks!

depends on your hours. I think you will find the friday afternoon ride home tough, but other then that, you can make it work. It is only a summer.

You can find cheaper housing about if you can live with a non annapolis zip code. Try finding a room on craigs list

that's 140 miles roundtrip? gas will prolly be over $3/gal this summer. plus your bridge tolls. plus wear and tear on you car...how many days per week are you working?

i'd check craigslist for roommates or find someone where you're gonna work to rent you a room...

Don't listen to the "bridge haters" ( no reference to the previous posters). I live on Kent Island and cross the bridge 4 times a day, sometimes. I would MUCH rather deal with the bridge than say, Forest Drive or Ritchie Highway. Every now and then there is an accident but that is no matter where you go. Get an EZ Pass and enjoy the ride.

I'm in the same boat as Just1more. I cross it at least twice a day, 6 days a week. I would much rather have to cross the bridge than deal with the crazy traffic and backups on the west side of Annapolis, or any major city. On Thursday nights last year I noticed a slight backup at times, but otherwise I can't really think of more than 2 times I sat in any kind of real delay.

if the guy was gonna live on kent island or even east of the narrows i would agree with all of you...i have several friends who commute over the bridge to d.c. ans b-more...but he's another 50-60 miles past k.i.!!!takie that money you'd be spending on those expenses you would have commuting and find a room instead. annapolis is fun in the summer. yeah it gets crowded with tourists, but you'll have a good time...certainly a hell of a lot more fun than spending 3-4 hours every...freakin...day on the road.

My bet is there is more to "offer" in Annapolis or even Kent Narrows for a college kid than you will find in Smyrna. Hint Hint - Nudge Nudge - - I would know - I'm from Clayton...Your only young and single once...ok young once....Enjoy it!!!

Thanks for the opinions guys...I started looking on craigslist and it looks like there might be some reasonable options...now I'm just waiting to hear about whether or not I got the job!

starmonk: I actually live in Clayton too...my parents just moved there a few months ago from PA. I was just home for spring break and there is nothing to do there!
