That's not a yacht -- it's a small cruise liner.

The US has been building Megayachts for years. Burger and Trinity are two off the top of my head...

I'd look into getting one, but the 13 ft draft would inhibit me from most of my best togging spots. Good boat for the canyons though.

Derecktor's in chapter 11 so things aren't real rosey.

http://www.courant.com/business/hc-b...,3617350.story

The project is vital to Derecktor and its workforce, according to bankruptcy court documents.

Last year, Derecktor Connecticut filed for Chapter 11 protection. A key adversary in the pending case is Gemini II, a company that used Derecktor's Bridgeport yard to build a 145-foot, $27 million catamaran. The company contended that Derecktor was not housing the unfinished catamaran in the main construction facility but, rather, in a substandard facility, according to bankruptcy court filings.

The main construction building, at that time and since, housed Cakewalk. Seeking to protect the project, known as "Cakewalk V" in court filings, the yacht owner's attorneys contended that the main building did not have room for Cakewalk and the catamaran — and that the 281-foot yacht was, by far, the more important project.

Bankruptcy papers filed in 2008 listed the yacht's total price at $82 million, but Zinser said that the cost has climbed considerably. He said that he could not give a precise figure, but it's not uncommon for projects of this scope to exceed $100 million.

•Three tender boats — 33-, 35- and 37-feet-long — for shore excursions, fishing, sightseeing. These three boats alone will cost about $2.5 million, Zinser said.

I wonder who owns this beast? ;?

I'm not buy one unless it comes with a color coordinated matching helicopter.

Seriously, can you imagine having to choose the window dressings and cushion colors for all of that boat.

A.I.G. -- management was told they couldn't use the corporate jet anymore, bad publicity. So being the smart thinkers that they are, they ordered a boat, instead.

With a name like CAKEWALK it sounds to me like I'm missing out on a good business opportunity.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit that the owner is in possession of some BAILOUT money. Wait till that name shows up on a Mega yacht.

I live right down the Pike from Derktor. Its a cool shop to drive by.

If you ever drive by, Look for the gigantic Aluminum hull by the side of one of the sheds. It was comiisioned by none other than Dennis Kozlowski. (remeber him.. Head of Tyco.. embezzeled a mere 600million...)

It would have been the largest aluminum sailing ship in the world but has say mid-build since he was indicted..

Its just awesome to see even unfinished... and, you can have it for a mere 18 million...
