Default Garmin nuvi

Quick question guys, just got the 255w for my wife. Trying to put in Washington DC (Kennedy Center) It keeps going to Washington state. When I spell in Washington DC then put in 2700 F Street, it looks in Washington state again. What do you think I am doing wrong?

In mine (Nuvi 260W), you need to put in your country (1st), state (2nd) and then, the street address.

Hope this helps

I went to AAA and got a free map. Can't refold the damn thing, but it doesn't confuse Washington state with Washington D.C.

Rio,
Thanks, did that also.
What I ended up doing was to zoom out, move the map / cursor to where I know about where it is, zoom in, find it, put the cursor on it, "Kennedy Center lit up then I hit save.
Trying to get her set up for a short trip tomorrow.
Thanks.

Try entering in "40 sq miles of swamp" and see if it picks up on DC.

I don’t know if I have a 250W or a 255W, but this is how I got mine to work.

From initial window, select “where to”
Then on the bottom of the next screen there is a button “near”
Then “a different city”
Type Washington, then scroll through all the towns named Washington and select DC.
Next screen select “points of interest”
Then “entertainment”
Then “live theater”
Then scroll through and find Kennedy Center

Hope that works on your GPS.

This is what garmin Tech support sent, after I asked them that question.

Stephen,
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.
Once you hit Address, it will ask you to spell a City. You must hit 'Change State or Country' at the bottom of the screen. You will then hit 'Spell State'. At that point, all you need to do is type in 'D' and District of Columbia will come up for you.
Please let us know if you have any other questions.

With Best Regards,

What Kingair said. I was in the District a few weeks ago and had the same issue. I typed District of Columbia in for the state and it worked.

Thanks all,
When the little woman picked up my daughter at UMD, my daughter found it on the Nuvi then the speaking voice was no longer there.
When they came out for the return trip the voice was back!?

Water under the bridge now, got to the Kennedy Center, show the performance, and returned safely.
Thanks again
