You know, when I read the subject line of this thread I immediately thought this has to be something someone in California did. It is.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A deckhand on a charter boat full of school children choked to death on a bait fish he had put in his mouth as a joke. ...

The Los Angeles Unified School District sent a note to parents and was providing grief counselors for traumatized students.

I would reach down his throat with a hook remover and pull it out and other things not to mention at this time, this should have not been a death sentence!!!

I suspect it went down partway, head first. There is no pulling a fish out backward without ripping up the throat, if even possible. There is no eating a fish backward. The Heimlich maneuver would not have worked, either. Everything eats a fish head-first, it goes all the way down -- never goes part way and comes back out.

The thing to do was to poke a hole in this throat, create a breathing hole below the blockage.

Every year a handful of people in Asia die eating live baby octopi. Twirl the little critter in your chop sticks, put in mouth, and quickly swallow. No chewing. Sometimes folks don't swallow fast enough and the little fellow un-twirls, uses its tenticle suckers to cling to the sides of the throat on the way down. He ain't going all the way down, ain't coming back up, and ain't letting the monster trying to eat him breathe. What a way to die!!!

Because as we all know, The Mid-West and East Coast is only populated by smart folks who never do stupid things.

Prayers to the guys friends and family.

Obviously, you didn't see 'Saw V', the latest in the 'Saw' movie series. There is a scene in the movie ...

This is not the 1st time I have read something like this. Same scenario with a sunfish and same result - fish became lodged and they were unable to pull it out due to dorsal fins. Got to carry a tracheotomy kit with you when you pull these stunts.

At first I thought it was an April Fools story, but the story
has been reported by quite a few sources.
