Default Kidney stone - its going to be a long weekend

The thing started about 24 hours ago. My 1st and last one was 9 years ago. I already know the weekend is shot. I'm sweating just thinking about the upcoming pain. I hope I don't have to leave the house via stretcher again. I get migraines, I've broken my back, head on car crash at 40MPH, dropped 40lb anvil on my foot in a college metallurgy class (broke 4 bones). I'd rather have all the above at one time than a stone again

Plenty of clear liquids...make your kidneys work overtime...pee, pee, pee...pre-medicate with 975 mg Tylenol + 800 mg of Ibuprofen...then in 6 hours, another 975 mg Tylenol, followed in 2 hours with another 800 mg Ibuprofen, and drink, drink, and pee, pee...that should help

Sorry for you. Don't they have rather painless Ultra sound stone reduction? Unless try with your fish finder (sorry for the joke). Good luck.

Hey, Fast guy -- good luck with that thing. Been there a few times myself. Forget the OTC stuff, see a doc, pack your pockets with Vicodine and ride it out.

I agree with Eyeball on this. Too much pain to try to get by on your own.

You aren't Daniel Boone out in the wilderness, call your doctor!

Man I hate it for you. I had my 1st and only one a few years ago. Nothing can describe the pain. I woke up not knowing what was going on. I went to the bathroom and threw up. Woke up my wife and said take me to the hospital, "I'm dying". Threw up all the way there. Walk thru the revolving door to the emergency room and the front receptionist looks at me and says "kidneystone". I immediately get a feeling of relief because before that I had no idea what it might be. That relief lasted about 2 seconds. I was throwing up on the gurney on the way back to x-ray. Once they verified the problem I got a intra-venous morphine drip, that was the ticket. They gave me fluids and pain pills and sent me home. I passed that microscopic pos a few hours later while still doped up. How can something that small cause so much pain? I hope that was my last one.

Good luck Fast

I feel your pain...I've had 17 of them! The last about 4 years ago. The worst was the 1st,I had to be admitted in the hospital with surgery the next morning. About 30 minutes prior to surgery I had to take a leak bad. I filled 2 of those bedside bottles and just as I finished a stone the size of a BB plopped out! One time while coaching HS football we were on a road trip. It hit me in the 2nd qtr and I had to grit my teeth thoughout the game. Then it was a 3 hour bus ride home, that was the worst part! Drink plenty of water and cut down on tonic (soda for you southern folks).

Bad news, Baypro -- kidney stones average a 7-year cycle. There's something for you to look forward to.

Good news, kidney stones are almost always preventable -- drink plenty of water, always.

Me too, go to the hospital, when asked about the pain on a scale of 1 to 10, it's an 11. They do the morphine thing, but not a drip. It's a long slow injection, it's timed. Something like 2mg/minute or something like that so the body doesn't go into shock. But there is nothing like it for killing pain.

I've never had one, but so I hear, shits to be you right now. Aren't the doctors zapping them now-a-days to eliminate them?

I, too, have never had one (knock on wood) but I hear they are extremely painfull. I hope you pass it as quickly and painless as possibly.

When I hear Kidney Stone, all I think is Kramer passing the stone while at the circus causing the guy to fall off the tight rope!

Yup, I consider myself an expert after about 5 episodes. Drink, drink, drink...water that is! Oh, and if you come across any demerol, don't be shy.

I feel your pain, while I have never had one, my wife just recently went thru an episode with both a kideny stone and gall stone at the same time .... she was in dreadful pain but have to say was a trooper thru it all .... she certainly handled it far better than I would have. Hope it goes quickly for you.

Never had one but from the stories I have heard I feel your pain. IMO as long as you do not have an addictive personality, skip the Tylenol and just go find some one and by some hardcore painkillers? Why suffer? sounds immature but from the pain stories I hear I think taking pills justifies this. After reading this post next time I take a piss pain free I will never take it for granted!!! Good luck buddy!!!

;? What is the medical reasoning for making a person wait to get the sound blaster treatment?

i feel your pain, i've had many and was even blasted twice. they can only blast them while in the kidneys, once in the "lower end" its pretty much grit your teeth and deal with it. everyone has their own solution and i will offer mine. i confine myself to the house and take a 10mg percocet and start to drink beer. pills knock the edge off and the beer makes peeing more frequent. keep this up until stone passes or you get drunk and pass out. if passing out happens continue when you wake up. you should be able to tell when it has reached the lower end and when this happens start peeing into a fine mesh aquarium fish net to strain the stone out. save the stone in a ziplock bag and take it to the doctor to be analyzed. there are few few different types of stones and analyzing it will help determine how to prevent them in the future. good luck
