Default Well, the fruitcakes

in California have finally totally lost it. Read this.

http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/carb-so-crazy/

Next they will outlaw white boats due to them reflecting so much solar energy back into the atmosphere and aggravating "global warming".

I've always said that the population of California can be compared to a bowl of cereal...

If in't not fruits, or nuts, it's flakes.....

So California spends their money trying to ban black cars. No wonder they are bankrupt.

I'm not laughing because California has gone off the deep end, again.

I'm laughing because the California car color code is a model for reducing the pretend global warming that is being adopted for national use.

Well ok that's a bit out there, but why doesn't someone do something in regards to the type of fuel that is burnt and the mileage one gets in the vehicle they drive? A band-aid is not a sollution for a gash the size of a baseball bat!

Pretend global warming is not caused by the color of cars -- it is caused by stars. Yes, stars!!! And I can prove it!!!

See these pix from the NASA website:

http://history.nasa.gov/ap11ann/kippsphotos/apollo.html

Look again
. Do you see any stars in any of those pictures? NO!!! Because there are no stars in outer space.

What we see as stars are really light bulbs in our own atmosphere. Somewhere, someone is turning on a bunch of heat causing star-light bulbs every night, and turning them off every morning.

Two possible solutions: replace the heat causing incandescent star-light bulbs with CFL (compact florescent light) bulbs -- this means the stars will slow to come on, and will probably require a multi-trillion-dollar bailout; or just turn off the stars all together.

SAVE THE BLACK CARS -- TURN OFF THE STARS!!!

My God, how can California miss the obvious? All they have to do is outlaw ambient temperatures above 70 degrees.

Just because some thinktank tosses around a bunch of ideas (both sound and ridiculous),
that doesn't mean that it will actually become law.

Besides, it appears to be more about paint composition and reflective glazing.

But that hasn't stopped talk radio from claiming that they are going to "ban black cars"

Good point -- it's not just cars. They want to change the color of our mud huts, too. From that link:

Setting a Paint Standard

- Architectural coatings available in 25-35% reflective range

- Transferability issues of these pigments

- Development data indicates 20-25% more likely achievable range for dark colors for automobiles

- Jet black remains an issue, even at this level

Soundbounder: I agree with the logic of the proposal. Black cars are hotter than white cars. However, I have also done business in the State of California for many years. The Air Resources board is far more powerful than anyone would imagine and they basically answer to no one. They are appointed and not elected. So, like Federal Judges, there's not much that can be done to replace them.

Just as California became the first to mandate emissions certifications for outboards and was the first to ban many models, what the ARB wants, the ARB gets. Case in point: MTBE. They felt it was the new miracle and guaranteed that when phased in it could not be phased out for 5 years. So, instead of air pollution, we now have horrendous ground water pollution. The next regulation that will be coming to California is the banning of spray lubricants like WD-40. I am not making this up.

If they have decided black cars are evil, I can assure you there will be reflectivity standards for California vehicles. We've had 49 state vehicles for years because of emissions. Want a little parts washer with solvent? Not in CA. Want a Bluetech diesel? Not in CA. Want a gas golfcart? Not in CA. Want a gas leafblower? Not in CA. Want to replace your fuel sucking carburetor with fuel injection? Not in CA.

About the spray cans: They started by regulating them and the next step is banning them. Here's a link: http://www.arb.ca.gov/newsrel/nr071806.htm

This is exactly how talk radio stays in business.

50% of what they say is pure BS, the other 50% is loaded with half truths that don't tell the whole story.

Create a bunch of false outrage and mislead people about some law that will never come about.

The crackpots love this stuff.

If they have decided black cars are evil,
They haven't decided anything!!!

YEEESH!!!!
Start thinking for yourself for once.

Forty years ago when they discovered that disposable diapers didn't biodegrate, you would have been on here ranting that they are going to outlaw babies.

Go blow your nose somewhere else!!!!!

I think I was reasonable in my presentation of the situation in California and seriously question the reason for your comment about "Go blow your nose someplace else" as well as "Start thinking for yourself for once".

I would ask you to got to the California ARB website. It is here: http://www.arb.ca.gov/homepage.htm

Please note that the headline is "Tire Pressure Regulation Passed"

Then, go into the rulemaking tab under 2009 and you'll see that as of February 5th, the tire pressure regulation was up for public comment. But it is now the law. They do move quickly.

You are perfectly welcome to believe that their paint standards are but a think tank idea and will never come to pass. But I also reserve the right to ask for your public apology when they do.
