Default Allergy/Cold Meds...help

What is the best?

Allergies are killing me, have gotten my sinuses screwed up and now going to chest...I guess a full blown cold.

Claritin D is completely ineffective against this...I have been on it for two days.

Leaving work at 5 to go purchase...I want reader's pick of the best allergy, stuffy head, sneezing, watery eyes, headache medicine OTC.

Thanks!

Some of the 'newer' allergy meds like Claritin can take several days/2-wks to get up and running in your system.

This is what docs are for -- make an appt to see yours.

Btw, meds for cold/flu are different from meds for allergies. For cold/flu -- massive doses of vit C.

Heard recently on the news that 90-95% of the flu bugs the Rx flu med was designed to treat are now immuned to the med. They mutated beyond the effectiveness of the med.

the best and most effective is benadryll but it will knock you on your ass. If claritin is not effect try two tablet or maybe switch to zertec.

Don't buy Benadryll as Benadryll, that is the most expensive.

Buy it either with the drug store's name on it, or even cheaper, buy an OTC sleep aid -- it will 100% Benadryll, generic name Diphenhydramine HCI. It is the least expensive way to buy Benadryll.

Anytime you buy OTC meds, talk to the pharmacist first, ask for the best and least expensive med.

As an allergy sufferer (too many to list) for years you need to go to the doctors. I hate these people but you have to go.

They will test you most likely with a prick test. It's simple and itchy. It will tell them what you are allergic to.

I will tell you right now for me FLONASE (sorry check spelling) is the bees knees, the cats meow, or just clearly the balls. Not one side effect, takes about 2 weeks to get working and look out. They now have the aftermarket stuff that still works well for me. If you want more intel PM me.

You may have an infection now that needs treatment beyond allergy meds, check with a doctor.

I take over the counter Claritin and have been doing so for 8 years - no allergy symptoms and have not had a cold, runny nose or sore throat in 8 years.

Like Rob I too am, no lets correct that, I "was" an allergy sufferer with to many allergies to list. I "was" allergic to basically everything found outdoors, including many foods and of course the dust and mold things. Well I kicked 100% of all my allergies in one fail swoop.

One day I just said to myself F....it, FUK IT!, FUK IT!, FUK IT!, FUK IT!, FUK IT! NO MORE! I am Not going to take this any longer.........so I went out and bought a horse. The horse, barn, other animals around the farm, the fields and trees represented everything that seriously kicked my butt and that I needed to avoid.

I had allergy shots for 17 yrs (generally once or twice a week) and those shots were pumping me full of the stuff that I was most allergic to. So one day I thought what better way to build up my immune system then buying a horse and exposing myself to massive doses of all the things I'm allergic to. Four times a week I went to the stables/ barn, groomed my horse and rode through fields as high as the horse’s shoulders and deep into the woods. Each and every time I rode I repeatedly told myself FUK IT!, FUK IT!, FUK IT!, I will NOT allow myself to be a sufferer anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That summer was the last I've suffered from allergies and that was 34 yrs ago. I went from a blood shot eye rubbing, runny nose, sneezing rag doll mess with an itch roof of my mouth to a champ and I didn’t even know it was happening.........I just believed 1000% in I could do it!

As far as a cold goes, I take Shaklee DR, 4 tablets 4 times a day when I feel a cold starting to kick my butt. As far as I'm concerned that stuff is the bomb! Shaklee DR is made up of zinc, Echinacea purpurea extract, Larch tree extract, blackberry extract and juice (Sambucus nigra} and extract from stevia (Stevia rebaudiana). DR really is not for colds, it is designed to build one’s immune system and make it stronger. So you are not actually addressing the symptoms of a cold with DR, you are addressing the strength of your bodies immune system which in turn fights the cold.

I guess there is different ways one can go about dealing with their suffering, I just choose to not use chemicals per say. I look for the root cause and deal with that instead of trying to deal with the symptoms.

Good luck......hahahahahahahahahaha suffer you poor basta-d.
