Can anyone tell me the difference in the slow cure 3M 5200 you can get at Home Depot for $6.49 vs. the same stuff you pay $11.99 for at West Marine? ;?

I like the $6.75 at wal mart, it all goes to crap after you open the tube.

Store it in the freezer. Lasts forever.

With West Marine you get the nautical feel when you go in the store. Lots of knowledgable folks talking in nautical terms only boaters can understand. that my friend is what you pay $5.50 for, LOL

Welcome to the darkside!

Thanks for the pricing update. Now I'll have more current numbers to quote when I want to rile up Curmudgeon!

Are you talking the 10oz cartridges? HD 12.00 WM 15.00 (they are almost across the road from one another)

There may be something to that -- I put a tube of 5100 in the freezer and the freezer is still going strong!

... when I want to rile up Curmudgeon!

Don't bother, I'm too busy searching for Mom and Pop marine stores for WM to target. Hard to find many challenges since Boaters folded. I'm a little disappointed, however, that you missed Home Depot when doing your 5200 price surveys. Such oversight might cost you your 'secret shopper' gig, and that could really suck in this economy. You don't want to go back to being a derelict on the streets of SF ...

I think it has more to do with humidity than temp. I don't freeze it, I air-tight seal it. No problems keeping it soft that way, regardless of temp.

3oz tube. The 10 oz cartridge was $24.99 at my local West Marine store but it does look like you can buy it online for less.

I'd have to say if it's 3M 5200 in the same tube then it's 3M 5200 regardless of how much you pay for it.

Not everyone has a vaccum sealing system, but pretty much everyone has at least one freezer. I've been freezing all my caulk for years now....it has not failed me yet!
