Default Anyone on Linkedin?

I have been looking at joining linkedIn.com for business networking opportunities.

Is anyone here a member, and do you get benefits from it?

I'm a member and networked through my school. If you are looking for a job its helpful...at least in my network there's alot of job postings but only for alumni.

I think you can also link through companies and friends.

I joined last May when I got laid off. Have made several good contacts through Linkedin.com, but still haven't hooked up on a new job yet. Several on the recruiters I', working with are very active on it however.

Yes, I have been a member for a few years. It is valuable for identifying people in your network who may work at a company that you are interested in, for example.

I have been on LinkedIn for a few years now - I think highly of it as a professional networking tool (both for general business needs as well as career networking) and recommend it very often.

I'm in Human Resources and use LinkedIn often for recruitment purposes. It's a great tool. We just acquired a company and are offering outplacement assistance to those employees to whom we are unable to offer positions. The outplacement firm managing this for us just presented to the employees and one of the first things they did was recommend everyone get registered on LinkedIn.

There are quite a number of sub-groups on there - special interests, associations, credentials, etc. I'm enrolled in my high school and college networking sites as well as former employers. It's a great mechanism to keep in touch with others - those you know and those you don't know yet.

In addition to the above, it can be useful in linking to classmates from high school, college, grad school, prior employers, etc. in a professional way. I've been able to get in touch with several who I'd lost contact with, and catch up.
