Default Government Mule

I recently discovered this band thanks to my neighbor. And I can't stop listening to them. Great tunes.

It's Gov't Mule... )

mulearmy.net

My favorite band. Warren Haynes is a master. Attend a concert!

ever seen the version of Cortez The Killer that Warren did with Dave Matthews in Central Park? 2003, I think. It's a face melter!

I've torrent traded lots of their shows, also love getting the soundboard versions when I can. Up to over 10gigs of their music in my library.

PM me if you need any ideas.

How about this parody of Bob Dylans Maggies Farm

Barry's Farm

Barry’s Farm

(Sung to the tune of Maggie’s Farm by Bob Dylan)
Written by Paleo Pat

I ain’t gonna work on Barry’s farm no more.
I ain’t gonna work on Barry’s farm no more.
Well, I wake up in the morning,
Fold my hands and pray that I might keep my gain.
I got a bill full of Taxes
That are drivin’ me insane.
It’s a shame the way he makes me tip the whore.
Naw, I ain’t gonna work on Barry’s farm no more.

I ain’t gonna work under Barry’s Law’s no more.
I ain’t gonna work under Barry’s Law’s no more.
Well, he hands you a Dollar,
Taxes you a dime,
Looks at you with a grin
While robbin’ you ****in’ Blind,
Then he taxes you every time you open the door.
I ain’t gonna work under Barry’s Laws no more.

I ain’t gonna be a slave for Barry’s Government no more.
No, I ain’t be a Slave for Barry’s Government no more.
Well, he puts a Tax Bill
in your face just for kicks.
His White House
It is made out of Bricks.
The Secret Service stands around his door.
Ah, I ain’t gonna be a slave for Barry’s Government no more.

I ain’t gonna work for Barry’s Bitch no more.
No, I ain’t gonna work for Barry’s Bitch no more.
Well, she talks to all the people
About Equality and Race and Law.
All the while the workin’ people
Are payin’ for other peoples bad calls
She’s a lying thief, but she says her honesty stands tall.
Naw, I ain’t gonna work for Barry’s Bitch no more.

I ain’t gonna work on Barry’s farm no more.
I ain’t gonna work on Barry’s farm no more.
Well, I try my best
To do the best I can,
But everybody wants you
To pay thier bills for them.
They eat steak while you slave and I just get bored.
I ain’t gonna work on Barry’s farm no more
.

I've been to over a dozen (not yet 20) Mule concerts and the best part is all the covers! -never know what's gonna be played.

-also nice when someone sits in with Warren... Audley Freed is a fav of mine. also Sonny Landreth.

Warren Haynes is the best.

Two words: Grateful Dead ... or the Dead without Jerry Garcia. And who better to replace Garcia than Warren Haynes.

The Core Four of Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, joined by guitar monster Warren Haynes and RatDog keyboard ace Jeff Chimenti ...

I just figured out how to play Soulshine on acoustic, I want to play and sing this to my 1st born this Summer.
Gov't Mule plays in Boston often, they were in for Halloween and did a Pink Floyd theme, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here. They do a different theme every year, some Hendrix will be balls to the wall!

See Warren with The Allman Bro. Band trading licks with Dickie Betts. Among my many fun gigs, I was the cameraman/editor for this historic rehearsal. May Alan Woody, bassist, RIP. Crank up the speaks.

I've seen Warren with The Dead, A Bros and Gov Mule. He is a great musician and I love his work. Someone mentioned Derek Trucks earlier. Dig his stuff also.

This is an incredible version of Allman Bros "Dreams" with both of them.

I like the cover stuff these bands (Gov Mule, Phish, etc.) throw into their live shows. Always keeps you on your toes and it's fun to see what they pull out.

Saw the Mule open for ABB a few years back at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield MA.

It was a hell of a show.

Dickey was out of ABB and Derick Trucks was taking over and he and Warren rocked. Although Trucks rocks, he's a bit too stiff. I use to enjoy watching Dickey tear it up, do the guitar faces and move about a bit.

I saw Dickey at the end of last summer in a real small venue. I don't believe they stopped touring. Now Dickey Betts and Great Southern is another treat. Check them out at a local venue. Duane Betts can tear it up too.

Hear is my Favorite ABB song. Dickey and Warren. By the way, this is live and that's the way these guys roll. Not any fancy electronic tricks here, just tallent.

I like this one from Warren:

But "About to Rage" is my favorite Mule Song.

Betts was tossed out of the Allman Bros Band years ago, mid-tour. Something about beating the crap out of his wife a la Chris Brown style that didn't go over well with Greg Allman. Betts was told not to come back.

Yep, it's true. He was a mean drunk at the time.

Conkyjoe,
thanks for those links. I'd never seen those before.

as for my favorite Mule song, I can't really have one. They've never played a song I didn't like, because their music is exactly what I love.

now, my favorite song they've covered is probably 32/20 Blues. (old Robert Johnson song I believe)

favorite cover performed is Neil Young's "Almost Cut My Hair" - 10.13.2006 (Donovan Frankenreiter guested)

The NewYears at the Beacon from 2007 is a killer show, tons of awesome covers. (I thikn there's 19 covers in a row for that show)

If you need any ideas for great songs, give me a shout. My stereo is never off.
