Default Fisherman Caught with 85 Sharks aboard Their Boat

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says three fishermen have been cited for having 85 sharks aboard their boat, a violation of the catch limit of 33.

The men were caught with the large haul of sharks on Feb. 19 and face fines and jail. Fines could range between $100 to $350 for each offense and they could be put in jail for up to 60 days, fisheries agents said.
Capt. Steve McManus of the Fisheries and Wildlife Department says the men were stopped in Southwest Pass in Plaquemines Parish.
The fishermen cited were 46-year-old Joseph A. Norman, of Covington, 34-year-old Shane C. Acosta, of Slidell, and 36-year-old Carl M. Acosta, of Slidell.

They really need to up the penalties for that extent of abuse. I HATE sharks and they are NOT endangered around here, but that's just fuggin rediculous. Like the guy with 1,000 red snapper last year. Should be banned for life from operating a charter vessel.

Besides after the guy was busted last summer with all those snapper, you gotta be stupid to come back in with illegal fish in LA now. Heck, even the federal game wardens have set up camp down in Grand Isle this winter... just waiting for summer.

85?? Is there even any market for that? I have to assume they were going to just pull the jams out and sell them at souvenir shops.
